Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4, Xbox and PC Hopefully)

A more flexible fast travel should be in the game, realism and 'thats not how the game should be played' aren't valid reasons for it not being there. Once you've invested 80 odd hours into the game travelling around constantly isn't remotely fun, games should be fun. It should be there for those who want to use it, don't want to use it then don't, no excuse for it not being in the game.

It's nothing to do with age, or gaming experience, I've been gaming since the 80s so am far away from being a millennial but the travel is 100% tedious after a while. Calling it out as such shouldn't be frowned upon.

AC keeps getting mentioned because it's superior in certain facets, they're both open world games so of course they're going to be compared. There's no need for people to get upset just because that's happening, RDR2 gets mentioned in the ACO thread too.

Completely agree. Not played AC yet due to reservations of the series in general but can see harm in comparing 2 of the years biggest open world games at all.

And like yourself, I think I'm nearing the rear end of the story and some of the horse riding is getting stale. I've still not used the camp travel tbh but can see why it's there. I used stagecoaches etc last night as I don't see the benefit riding from quite high up north, all the way to the south to do the next mission. Sure you may see the odd random encounter but at this point they are repeating too. It's nice to be given the choice and one shouldn't be judged for taking advantage of a built in feature

Perhaps part of my issue was that I constantly had a bounty on my head so couldn't use the stage coaches :p

Naughty Arthur > good Arthur

I did use the camp travel a couple of times, it's good that it's there but some of the missions are just A -> B long distance travel, bit of shooting, B -> A long distance travel. Each to their own but that doesn't float my boat.

Im not crapping on the game, far from it, any game that holds my attention for the amount of time it did is obviously a very good game, but some of the mechanics aren't the best imo.

Yeah at some point I'm finding the realism aspects a bit grating or pointless as they aren't even required for the majority of the experiance so why even implement them. Either way it's a great game and I'm enjoying it. Like you, to hold my attention for this long can't be a bad thing

I enjoy some pretty scenery as much as the next person but it's hardly like the map/locations vary all that much and by the 8th time going back/forwards on the same track it is indeed tedious in my opinion and adds nothing to the game. Fast travel ought to be there, if you don't want to use it then nothing forces you to but by not having it we're all forced into long stretches of tapping a button repeatedly because someone thought that was a worthwhile mechanic.

I'm still getting some fun from it but if it wasn't for the incredible graphics (which look almost next gen at times) I think people would be a lot less enamoured with it. It's a technical tour de force without actually pushing gameplay forward in any particularly meaningful ways and in some aspects in very outdated.

Loving the attention to detail - without spoiling too much:

Free roaming around the dirty south, I found a ramshackle house, with an argument raging inside. Taking a peek, I found a father and son arguing, but not wishing to leave without a bit of loot; I ended up getting in a shootout with the father, during which the son runs off and hides under his bed - but he knew the outcome so was sobbing.

Returning there last night, some 20-30% of progress later, I found the son was still there, hair a lot wilder than before - and this time he asked "why do you keep coming back?" followed by "I'm ready for you" - he hopped off his bed with a knife and began carving me up at rapid speed! I legged it, only for him to plunge the knife in and kill me off.

I've since returned and reunited him with his father, but also found that there was a robbery mission there, which I can no longer do I suspect.

Stuff like that really impresses me about the game :)

I just use cinematic mode if I need to ride for ages, I've only died a couple times from randoms attacking me on the way :o

I know exactly which house you mean only when I went there it was empty. I started robbing it then bam father and son magically appear having an argument in the kitchen mid robbery :P

Father chased me out and I did a runner, didn't want the negative honour for popping him. :(

If only I could resist :D Lost count of the amount of people I have pooped at camps, as they have mouthed off, or random or horseback - though; I'm still not in the red bar yet!

Found an entire backwater village, where pretty much everyone tells you to **** off, in various ways - took a huge chunk of restraint, not to empty the place!

Clue - money is in the chimney.... or there is a box in the son's room...

Yeah, I thought it kind of gives away that you are playing as Marston, which some people might not know... I suppose it doesn't technically.
Except you aren't playing as Marston.....Unless you are playing the RDR 1 then you are right and you are playing as Marston.

I'm still playing in small pieces and exploring. Found some cool stuff earlier-

A cabin that had been hit my a meteor
A witches cauldron that I drank from, but it seemed to do nothing.
That Indian chief guy waiting for a train, and there was a little cutscene.
A massive snake
A golden gun in a cave
Got ambushed by some guys whilst camping.

It really impresses me how much there is you can still do after the story ends.
