Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4, Xbox and PC Hopefully)

I suggest you actually try it on the 1x to see how big the difference is. I even went out and got the x1 after how dissapointed I was seeing the game on my pro. The game deserves to be played with the best visuals and performance. Just my view though, it is bad enough that rockstar even acknowledged the issues with the pro version.

I don't need to, it looks great on the console I already own. If Rockstar find a way to sharpen the image even further on the Pro then great, but as far as visual quality is concerned I have nothing to complain about.

In addition to the blurring thing, are they in the process of fixing the HDR issues I’ve read about on the PS4 Pro? Or was it blown out of proportion? I’ve put off buying it until it’s resolved!

I'm playing 1080p on my PS4 Pro, the game looks stunning, I'm sure side by side with the 1X it might be noticeable but I'm really not going to sink £400 on another console just for that.

For people who are holding off buying because of this I'd focus on if you're going to enjoy the game rather than these graphical issues. It's quite a marmite game and a lot of folks seem disappointed at the slower pace, lack of regular fast travel etc. It's not GTA on horses.

The price these new games seem to cost these days, all issues should be factored in, at least imo. Who does not buy both consoles in this day and age anyway. Xbox 1x for better framerates, graphics and mostly native 4k unlike the pro which uses checkerboard. Pro version is blurry, HDR is broken and is not native 4k. Pro for exclusives which is a must have.

Hell the xbox 1x if you are a western fan is worth the price with the bundles now offered, rdr1 which has a 1x patch and it looks fantastic on a 4k tv no idea how they did it for a 360 game but they did a fantastic job on rdr1 to make it look that good at 4k.

People like me with kids who don't want to add to the number of spoilt, entitled little monsters who think they should have everything, whenever they want it.

I have two teenage boys who I raise on my own. I had no idea that me owning two consoles made my boys who are PC gamers spoilt. Learn something new everyday on this forum.

You basically just said every person who has kids with two consoles have spoilt kids lol.

I should also mention they also have ipads, phones and a switch each, also taking them to Florida for two weeks on dec 3rd. I must be such a bad parent not that I care less about anyone elses opinion but hey.

HDR is broken on the xb1x too...... Well not broken, just "fake".

Note that was tested on the xb1x not the ps 4 pro

With regards to sharpness on ps 4 pro, no doubt in 4k mode it is blurry, once again, been confirmed that the checkerkboarding method is botched and not only that but you have some form of TAA on top too making the problem even worse for the pro.

Force 1080P mode and it looks far better, obviously runs a lot better too

I hope this hdr will be patched; that’s my biggest gripe as after playing quality hdr titles since the release of the pro, none hdr games just look flat and I can’t get into them unfortunately as they’re just massively lacking.

I’ve a bad feeling this one might not be able to get proper hdr. Wondering whether to trade it in as can get £40 for it. ACOdyysey illustrates how it should be done. It’s a shame as the visuals in rdr2 would look stunning in hdr. The hdr on this game just elevates black levels massively; shouldn’t have to touch a calibrated TVs settings.

as weird as it may sound, i'm actually waiting for a patch to arrive before really diving into this game (i may even start a new game). I haven't really been in a 'gaming mood' over the past few weeks, despite having watched loads of rdr2 vids and being blown away by what i'm seeing.

I've noticed over the past few years that my gaming moods tend to come in short bursts, and then i'll go for a month without even picking up the controller. One of the side effects of entering my late 30's i suppose :D

I have it (ps4 pro) and played a few hours but i'm kind of assuming (hoping?!) that a HDR / bug fixes etc patch will be released in the not too distant future, so i'm happy to just wait for that.

It's a shame about the HDR in this, it can make such a difference and it's weird that they faked it when every other area of the game has been given such care and attention. There were moments in Horizon Zero Dawn where I was genuinely blown away by the quality of the visuals and I think HDR played a big part in that. I'm hoping they'll be including proper HDR and more responsive movement from the player character in a future patch.
