Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4, Xbox and PC Hopefully)

Oh my god, my eyes and head are beginning to feel the all day gaming sessions all the way through the nights to pretty much to 5am. Not had a decent might sleep since Wednesday, I'm so addicted, what a game.

I'd disagree with this.....at the moment!

It is a very impressive looking game but I remember being absolutely blown away by HZD - although I'm only a short period into the game atm and having a predominantly white covered screen perhaps isn't representative of the graphics! :D

Looking forward to getting into the main body of the game to see the best!

It’s all the details that impress me more than visuals alone. The attention to detail in this is levels above anything else.

RDR 2 looks amazing but infinitely better than HZD is a bit too much, I think:p HZD's lighting wasn't made to look realistic at all, just impressive, whereas this goes for realism. The water was bad in that game but in RDR 2 it doesn't look too good as well? Certainly not a patch on Odyssey. Overall, the level of detail is fantastic, though.

This , plus the fact it's already a gorgeous game the little touches everywhere just add to it being the best looking game I've ever seen , imo.

Love the night time Gfx on the pro; game has really opened up now. No probs with any washed out colours in hdr for me on ks8000. Hdr could do with being a bit more impactful on certain areas such as stars in the sky but other than that it’s very good.

Very slow game; wont be for everyone. Can see it getting better and better though as the mechanics start to stick. Eats the hours up lol.

Sure tgat patch it so getting out the menus is quicker, should be able to bring the map straight up too.

If you mean bringing the full map up without going to menu, you can. On xbox pad you can do it by holding down the menu button.

I can't say graphically (p4pro) it has blown me away the way that hzd, gow, uc4 ac odyssey have in 4k hdr on my oled. It is definitely a great looking game.

Also hdr implementation is noticeably better than sdr on my 4k oled.

If you have your tv in standard mode or some other crap preset for sdr content then that may be why. It's definitely one of the more subtle hdr implementations but it is better than sdr. If anyone wants settings for 7 series lg oled then give me a shout. I do have my input as pc to avoid the horrid lg game mode hdr cripple

Yup after having progressed to other parts than just snow now, the HDR isn't actually as bad as I originally thought. With it off, there is extremely bad black crush and loss of detail happening in dark areas (even with brightness turned right up) so it has to go back on. I just think the overall tone/colour filter is a choice of Rockstar and not a "fault", bit like Dice's decision to go with a cold/blue filter/tone for bf 3 and so on.

The depth of field/bokeh, AA or whatever is definitely broken on PS 4 pro though. 1080P gaming is far sharper and more detailed than this.....

This is using technicolor preset on my e7, haven't change the input mode to PC yet though, is it worth it for console?

It's that blur and 30 FPS that is straining your eyes :D :p ;)

does anyone know how the satchel and storing items works, if I hold left I think it brings up the my satchel, but then there is the weapon wheel which also has items as well. Are both the same thing, or do I need to move items from satchel to the item wheel for quicker access?

For my B7 I just used the recommended settings for all profiles/inputs posted on AV Forums, with a bit of tweaking to my personal tastes I'm quite happy. You should definitely be using Game mode or PC mode though otherwise you're increasing input lag unnecessarily.

Same, this is what I use:

Technicolor for everything where possible.

Don't like game mode due to the way it messes up the colour/tone. I use PC mode for my PC though, didn't think it was necessary for console as well but suppose I might as well since I don't use any of the features/options it disables anyway.

Ah cool, for a moment I had this horrible thought that you were using it with the awful out-the-box settings! :D

Game mode look absolute ass though

Pc mode labelling avoids the terrible loss of brightness output that lg implemented on hdr game mode compared to normal hdr. They fixed it on the 8 series with hdr game mode tone mapping.

So after labelling one of your HDMI inputs pc (also eliminates most post processing hence input lag) here are my settings for HDR:

Picture mode: cinema home (user)
Aspect: original
Just scan: on

Oled light: 100
Contrast: 100
Brightness: 50
Sharpness:10
Colour:55
Colour temp: w30

Advanced:
Dynamic contrast: low (needed for dynamic tone mapping on hdr10)
Dynamic colour: off
Colour gamut: wide
Super res: off

Picture options:
Noise and mpeg reduction: off
Black level: low
Real cinema:on (only relevant for 24p content so keep on)
Motion eye care: off
Trumotion: off

Under hdr calibration in game set to 500.

Yes please mate, is the input one just as simple as switching the icon from game console to PC for that input?

Just tried the settings above and it’s not letting me change some of them in cinema home.

found out you need the special edition to have the full game O_o

Why do devs ruin good feeling by locking out story content from the base purchase.

My ps4 pro is here, be about 13 hours before using it tho, as I am doing this process.

1 - restore from backup hdd to stock ps4 pro hdd
2 - confirm the restore works and have a baseline if step 3 fails.
3 - restore from backup to my hybrid sshd that was in the base ps4, I will obviously be overwriting the base ps4 data hence doing the other restore process first to make sure is ok.

The first restore has ETA of 6 hours, so is basically gonna be 2x6 hours.

Only 3 usb ports same as my base PS4, I thought was one extra.
5ghz wifi was not detected but when I manually entered SSID etc. it works.
HDMI extremely tight fit, thought I had a manufacturing defect on the port but got it in with a fair bit of force.
Now have true wired connectivity on controller, no more pairing issues in future yeah!!!! :)

Honestly looks fine on mine, darker than other HDR modes but that's about it. Might try with PC mode instead though and compare.

From the way they were described, the extras are entirely trivial; there's enough content in the game that you won't miss it anyway.

The base PS4s only have 2x USB ports, the Pro added one on the back. :)

Do you have to rename a different label PC or just select the PC icon?

I can’t change any of the advanced controls doing the above.

Do I need to get it using 10 bit HDR at 4:2:2 or something instead of 4:4:4?

Edit: Sorted it by just renaming the HDMI one to PC :)

I know one of the R* team said this is not going to be made for PC - did they say that for GTA V at the time of its console launch too? I assume they're just lying to get sales on console :D

It will come, and hopefully it will come also with all the cut out content on the console that people who didnt preorder and got standard edition (like me). So I will at least get the full game on the PC as well.
