Red Dead Redemption 2

Hi can someone give me some good settings for this game at 1440p on an RTX 2080/1080ti? Man is it demanding!
I have an 8086k/2080/32GB 3200 RAM CL16

I'm struggling tbh. Can't max it at 1440p at all.

If I use a controller, its fine and feels quite smooth but sadly I did a shoot out, was struggling, switched to mouse and keyboard and it was beautiful so im back to M+K.

M + K, better accuracy and I haven't used a pad for years
M+K for me as I cant aim for **** with a controller in games.

I started off with M+K. Quickly switched to gamepad for convienance and because one part of the game of fixing a wheel seemed incredibly simple on PC (press E, press E whilst the console version had some small more complex button prompts). Experience was fine, then I got into a shoot out on one of the first proper missions. Free aim on a controller is just not ideal, especially when you don't have stable framerates.
Switched to M+K, destroyed like 3-4 of the bounty hunters, 3 headshots.. no contest.

So back to M+K. I actually prefer it I think. I have mapped the sprint button to my mouse and the stop button to my mouse too. I really only use the keyboard to bring up specific menus and for wasd.
This game has made me think about buying a new mouse which has more buttons than my current MX master.

Must admit, the move to a mouse with more buttons has been one of the best gaming purchases of my life.

Where’s ocean breeze and his “I expect near max settings at 1440p with the latest titles on my three and a half year old GPU and even older CPU or Ill sit in a dark room ” got to?

Type of person to go clubbing with their mates and say they only hook up with the higher echelons of the opposite sex then disappear home, no doubt to watch a phone in freeview channel.

Least he can do is acknowledge the replies.

I’m liking my new mouse. It’s the Corsair dark core RGB SE.

Nice! I need wireless so I’m between the g pro and the 502
.
Edging towards 502 as games like these require as many buttons in the mouse possible. I like the idea of having all the menu buttons mapped to the mouse scroll wheel.

will try to find one in a shop first to try out. I’m used to heavy nice too with my Mx master

Have you tried the Hardware Unboxed settings, even with a 2080Ti I was struggerling for 60FPS in some areas, with HU settings I'm getting around 90FPS.

Thanks mate. Yeah, I've checked those settings out and its improved my experience a little bit. Still not fully convinced as I do get drops on my 2080 sub 60fps which I can feel but its a hell of a lot smoother.

Honestly if I'm still playing this game come the next Nvidia refresh, I'll probably just get a 3080ti. RDR2 has given me a snapshot into the future of gaming and it looks like if we're targetting 4k, we need as much graphical grunt as is possible and people just aren't playing well with DLSS support for whatever reason.

The 2080ti at launch now looks like a decent purchase as its reigned supreme as the best in class GPU for so long.

I can confirm I'm using a 2080ti @4k and getting similar results 70fps plus from using the HU settings very helpful.

this is a new one

That's the one I had. One solution is to delete 3 files (Google it as I can't remember which ones).
It worked for me. The files are replaced when you play again.

i'll have a look shortly, cheers. was just heading to the fence when it happened glad i saved just before the journey as i went hunting and done a legendary.

Thanks. I'm using a 2080 and getting around 50-60fps now but I've just used their settings with the resolution scaler thing to 0.9. Might even put it to 0.8 somehting and just use the nvidia sharpen filter

This game makes my 980ti feel its age pretty badly. I'm getting high 30s mid 40s most of the time with the chunkiest settings on medium and everything else on ultra/high. Gsync smooths it out a lot and importantly the frame times are nice and consistent so it's very playable. But god I can't wait to upgrade my gpu.
