Red Dead Redemption 2

I wanted to know why it won so many awards

Great story
Great characters
Most immersive environment in an open world game
Great animations with proper weight to movement
Some of the best vistas in a game when it came out

If you like fast paced, action every second games then it probably isn't for you. It's a very slow paced, grounded game. More of a cowboy simulator. I just enjoy pottering around the map, hunting and just watching the world go by. I actually find it quite a relaxing game to play.

Best thing I did last winter was upgrade my PC so that I could play CSGO with mates and RDR2 single player. I live in London so greatly appreciated the idea of riding off into the (virtual) wilderness, hunting, camping, exploring.. with the occasional smattering of violence :p

because there's no wild west cowboy shooter game on the market that has the same level of engaging story, immersive but not overbearing realism, stunning but actually playable visuals and massive but not empty open world all rolled into one package.

if there is, then would welcome, indeed appreciate, being corrected on that point, preferably with links to where i can buy it.

now granted if you don't like slower paced gameplay then you won't like it, and that's fine, doesn't mean the game isn't good though.

I kinda wish it was on STEAM, it's the only game I would play but I don't want to install Rockstar launcher which also installs RGSC. Just seems like a waste of faff for the sake of launching just 1 game.

If it's installed on Steam it'll force you to install and open Rockstar Social Club anyway, same with Epic Games. This is why I've waited and purchased to play via RSC this morning. 1 launcher required rather than 2.

I bought my key for the RSC. I have a mix of steam and RSC games on it. As others have said, any R* game requires the launcher to be installed regardless of where you fire it up from.

I guess that's true, oh well I'll reinstall again as put more than a couple hours into RDR2 as every time I see a new video on youtube I feel like getting back into it lol.

I have GTA5 on RSC and RDR2 on Steam and while the steam game requires the launcher installed I find it way less annoying. Forgets log in often when I want to boot up GTA5 and in the past it used to even give me annoying captchas! For RDR2 it asked me to log in first install and presumably linked accounts as has not since despite a windows re install just boots the game with some sort of launcher intermediary splash screen. :p

The story so far has been really slow IMO. Getting better as the game goes on and learning to craft and hunt is a good way of passing time. I'm not saying it is a bad game at all, but I wouldn't pay the ridiculous amount they want for it considering its a few years old.

Good stories are often slow to build up. RDR2 is obviously not a fast-paced game, it's meant to be an epic Western that takes you on a journey and lets you get immersed the world as much as possible. Expecting anything else form the start, considering how long the game has been out and how many reviews are available, is a gateway to disappointment.

I uninstalled it many times since buying it because got bored of the slow initial pacing. Once you get into chapter 2 though things open up and you realise just how massive the land is. I mean I've been buying train tickets to get from town to town lol but will explore on horseback more now. I read that the game rewards you for exploring so interested to see what's in store.

Also the landscape you just end up gawping around anyway taking screenshots and things so there is that :D

Yes lots of random encounters you won't see by going on trains. :)

Some of them are better than the main missions!

I'm on my third play through (2 console, pc latest).

I remember playing it some time ago with the snow mod, it looked very Christmassy going through the town.

does that just make everywhere winter or is it an actual dynamic season kind of thing?

must admit i've never really gotten into modding on rockstar games, but i can see a seasonal type mod would make a hell of a thing to add to the game.

Played this on ps4 pro a few years ago, but only done around 5hrs or so, picked it up again on pc last night to give it another go, it seems to get amazing reviews

Just started playing this again, quite relaxing as it looks so beautiful, I'm running at 1440p with 1.5x res scale for 4k and makes it look even better, and everything on ultra apart from the tree tessellation, my frames are dropping to 45-50 which seems a bit low for a 3080Ti?
