Red Dead Redemption 2

I have an Xbone, but it's not been switched on for over 3 years now... I was tempted, but then thought I'd just wait it out for the PC version, so as soon as it was on cdkeys, I had to get it!

That sucks... I'd move lol.
I think my Xbox is pretty much just a Netflix/Prime streaming device 90% of the time, used to boot it up for a few Xbox exclusives but the PC Game Pass has probably now made it a 99.9% streaming machine.

It's not too bad having Virgin blocked in my area... Zen's got me covered with a 68Mbps FTTC connection and a nice bit of kit. If I'm willing to pay a bit more they can get me up to 125Mpbs but the current download rate is enough for my needs.

Meh :p

I still think there is going to be a lot of complaints about the controls as the "clunky" movement, animations etc. is part of the game (and what makes it such an immersive experience) and it is going to be even more exaggerated when using M+K with higher FPS and less input lag, can't wait to see this tbh, people thought GTA 5 was bad, they're in for a treat...... :D

Higher refresh rate higher fps means much faster response times right? So less clunky, a faster response to the movements.

Response times will be quicker but that isn't going to speed up the slow animations/movement of the game. The perks of the joysticks on the controllers is that it helps with that fine smooth control when moving and riding a horse, imo anyway. Much like GTA 5 when driving, flying and running about, a controller just felt right, just have to go back and look at the gta 5 thread to see all the crying over the controls in that game when using K+M :D

People seem to think this game will be like quake with a K+M lol.

Of course if it is anything like GTA 5 with regards to switching from 3rd person to first person view then the movement, aiming and animation feel/control will be a lot quicker/more snappy.

Reminds me a bit of assassins creed origins and odyssey when it came to animation and movement, people went on about odyssey feeling better for movement, combat etc. because it was incredibly snappy/quick, that largely ruined it for me as it was too arcadey then. Origins was more "clunky" as the animations were slower and everything felt like it had weight, this was much better for that style of game imo.

I wonder if a lot of it has to do with what a person started out with, out of curiosity were you a console gamer before becoming a WASD gamer? If so that may explain it in part, I feel like a lot of people get used to one particular method and in the end that method feels more natural to them than the other. I really struggle with controllers, after decades and decades of keyboard playing it just feels so unnatural to me, which is a shame as there have been some good controller preferred titles over the years that I have missed out on because I just cant play with a controller properly.

Only games where I prefer M+K is for FPS now.

Also, I can't be doing with sitting at a desk playing games now (especially games like rdr2), much rather lounge on my couch in front of a big screen TV.

Nothing is going to speed up the animations :p At some point skinning animals repeatedly will drive you insane - it did me and that's just what comes to mind as I type this.

Ha! Yup, exactly :D

Don't forget the cleaning your guns every 15 minutes to ensure best performance, eating food, feeding and brushing your horse etc. etc.

I actually enjoyed the slow eating food aspect of the game for some reason! I did feel, much like the AC games that obviously control will give you a more solid experience due to force feedback etc.

Same!

Odyssey was somewhat ruined at the time for me as when I went back to rdr 2, it just felt so much more meaty and realistic/weighty, then jump back to odyssey and it was like being a feather in the wind :p

Can you still tie up prostitutes and leave them on the railway lines? Because if not, that's a deal breaker for me.
You can leave anything on the railway tracks and watch them get squished. My favourite was lasso'ing selected members of a bad gang and dragging them through the wilderness and then into streams whilst I was on horseback.

So tempted to pre order this, but I don't want to break my (admittedly odd) rule, of not spending over £40 on a game. The Cyberpunk 2077 pre-order was only £34, so I just cant justifiy it. I think....

I am tempted but given I played the game to the death on the PS4 Pro, I can't see much coming of it if I was to buy it on the PC. Also I'm running a 1070 GTX on an overclocked i7 2600k (5ghz) since 2011. Not sure if the cpu is upto snuff for this game.
