I thought it was a good typical silly Red Dwarf plot in the end, and a very easy obvious kind of thing for them to choose for a special episode. I thought the whole thing though was very slow and low on laughs to go with the plot. Certainly the characters seemed a bit off for me as well, Lister was not as funny or stupid, Rimmer was not as smug or cowardly, the Cat wasn't so cool. It could have been much better if it was condensed to just a normal 30 min episode or possibly 2 episodes!

The final installment did a good job in wrapping it up, but it really didn't need a full 3 episodes to get to that conclusion. Made worse by the fact that it was based on an almost identical episode premise which only occupied 1.

Put simply they tried too hard when many fans would have settled for 3 seperate episodes that had them mucking about in the starbug cockpit fighting poorly rendered sock puppets.

Rimmer: Perhaps you'd like to explain to me why it is that every major battle in history has been won by the side with the shortest haircuts?

Kryten: Oh, surely not, sir.

Rimmer: Think about it, why did the US Cavalry beat the Indian Nation? Short back and sides versus girly hippy locks. The cavaliers and the roundheads... one-nil to the pudding basins. Vietnam, crew cuts both sides... no score draw.

Just watched the last part....
If I forgot it was Red Dwarf and wasn't comparing it to the old ones I'd have said it was ok. But it just doesnt feel like Red Dwarf. it seemed too forced, hard to really put my finger on it :/

Bit disappointed really, was hoping for so much more. If further series are made I really hope they go back to the old formulas (whichever series - I enjoyed all 8)

Just watched all 3 episodes...

I want my 90 minutes back!

They have just figured out how to make as much money as possible from product placement and advertising and going to stupid places, written a crappy story that spends ages going nowhere, stuck it together in a rubbish 3 episodes, and then covered their ass by saying it all happened in their head and isnt real...

And to think, The dispair squid episode was one of the greats!

I watched all three back to back on Sky+ and have to say that I found it a bit short on laughs but thought the concept was quite cleverly written. Did seem quite sombre overall which I found weird, also agree that the sets and camera work seemed too "expensive".
Not sure if I want it back for a new series or not.

I'm a big fan of BladeRunner, and liked the references... Until they completely encompassed the plot. For a single season episode, sure. But for the first Red Dwarf in years, stealing so much from BladeRunner was a bit disappointing.

Incidentally, if anyone cares, the Chinese lettering doesn't say what Lister says. Rather, 鼻子是我们 literally means Noses Are Us/Noses R' Us...

Watched the 1st episode and got bored. It just didn't feel like Red Dwarf to me.

Put on series 1 of red dwarf and felt right at home. I am now re-watching the lot of them, currently in the middle of series 3.

The first episode was much better than I expected. I really enjoyed the dynamic between lister and Rimmer, it felt very much the same as the older episodes. The lack of canned laugher wasn't an issue.

I saw the second yesterday and cringed through most of it. They really overkilled the Bladerunner references and the constant plugging of Dave was abominable.

Doug Naylor has tried way too hard to be clever with the storyline. He's trying to round off the franchise with the ultimate irony of the characters trying to find their real selves - but the script has no idea how to address it or how to pull it off effectively. I also couldn't help but feel that Lister's line re Starbug of "beggars can't be choosers" was also a nod to the production budget.

Red Dwarf should have died after series six. Seven and Eight were woeful in comparison to the previous series and the cliffhanger at the end of six would have actually been a great way to end the franchise.

Episode 1: Yep.. The Boys from the Dwarf are Back...
Episode 2: Too Se-real its frying my poor little bonce!.. *What Corry!! WTF...
Episode 3: Slightly too much Bladerunner.. Ooo Hang on Despair Squid!... Oooo They've pulled it back maybe another new series will be a good thing!!..

All in All I didn't think it was that bad!... I'll give it a 7.5/10 for effort!..

*I remember when Series 1 was originally aired (yes I'm that old!!).. it was on Head to Head with Coronation Street on ITV... Ooooh the Irony!!...

i watched, and not sure if I was disappointed or whether my expectations were set too high or i was thinking about RD through rose tinted glasses.

there were some funny moments that made me lol, and liked the blade runner homage.

I definitely think that the show was missing Rob Grant, he left at end of series 6 and i can't remember any classic episodes after that..
