Red Orchestra (2) : Heroes of Stalingrad

The new patch has seemingly done naff all for my performance, fps is still in the 40's and low 20's when things get exciting.

Is this the norm, and is this as good as it will get? If so I'll see how battlefield 3 handles and if that performs like **** then I'll get a new graphics card.

Not upgrading for one game though.

I played CSS for ages with a radeon 9800 pro so I don't mind so much.

What are your system specs?

Q6600 @ 3.4ghz, 4gb ram, ati 4870 512mb.

Think if I got a 6870 I'd get silky fps? But as I said I'll wait for bf3 first.

I'm just using the stat fps command in the console.

You shouldn't really be having as bad performance as it sounds like you're getting. How old is your Windows install? (i.e. I reckon it's a software problem)

6870 will be a fair improvement but I'd personally go for a 2nd hand 5870 from the MM. They're going quite cheaply at the moment and are a very good card for that price.

Windows install is at least 6 months old.

I'm using a few high settings in the game, textures are high for example. I tried textures on medium and that seemed to make the game perform as it should but it was just too ugly.

Use MSI Afterburner or similar to check that you're not hitting limits with your VRAM. I'd also advise checking with AA turned off (if you don't already have it turned off).

I am running an i5 2400 with stock 6870. 4gb ram and SSD. Running at 1080p with high setting (but bloom and blur off as I dont like them) I am getting 60-80fps with the odd drop to 50's in heavy action/arty

Edit - this is on a clean W7 64bit install

Well, I am about to have a i5 2500k & 6870 delivered.

Going from low/medium on 5750 + e5200 & unplayable 10-20fps I will be able to say later on tonight if there really is a difference.

@ Gizmo - should be a massive difference. I have heard this game struggles on dual cores (like bfbc2).
I played it on my MBP 17 which has a 2.2ghz quad and an ATI 6750 (480shaders @ 780/950) which is less powerful than your 5750 and I was getting between 28-60fps @ 1680x1050 with medium settings so I think it is your dual core dropping your fps into the 10-20 range

Edit - There seems to be a lot of negativity to this game. And I can see the frustration with the bugs, but beneath these bugs and crashes is an amazing game!
As much as I love BF2, COD, BC2 etc They are all a bit too arcadey for my liking. Now RO is not as hardcore as ARMA but for me its the perfect balance

turning off aa seems to have helped.

my absolute minimum fps when theres a lot of explosions is 20, but my usual minimum is now around 30.

Going to tweak some more.

Spartanovka, Apartments and Station are the best maps imo. Commissars House had promise but the first two points in territory mode for the Russians are harsh, since they spawn pretty exposed. Not hard for a co-ordinated team but ...

Try lowering anything related to shadows/depth of field/etc.

@Neil79: Even if the game is buggy it's far better for Eames to try and get things working for himself by tweaking settings rather than not doing anything and just crying on the forums about the game being broken.
