Red Orchestra (2) : Heroes of Stalingrad

It seems set for August release in UK and Australia, was reported in a few european mags but not real confirmation from tripwire.

But you are right, needs to come out before bf3 and cod to allow for the community to build and settle.

this or bf3 has to be the next clan game, or even both, it's been too long.

Look's potentially great. Never played the original- anyone able to give me some insight into how hard it is to hit someone in that game? I understand that you die fast when hit.

One shot one kill in most cases. Steep learning curve initially. That said TW have said in recent interviews that they have tried to simplify certain aspects of the new game to make it easier for noobs.

Depending on what weapon you are using i.e. bolt action rifle or smg affects how difficult (and how rewarding) it is to shoot ppl. My personal fav is bolty - love those long range shots. When you take aim you have to lead your targets and in some circumstances allow for bullet drop.

Lets hope after such a long wait its worth it. You could have course buy the current game and get a flavour of whats to come...

Set for release on the 30th of August with a US retail price of $39.99. Really cant wait for this :D.

Aye, I notice both VAC and Even Balance (PunkBuster) have been chosen for the anti-cheat mechanism. I'll probably be hosting a server for this on day one ;)

Is the current RO worth getting now, much of a player base?

Its so Marmite, i played it non-stop for months when it first came out. I picked it up again about 6 months ago and just turned it off after 30 minutes of constantly getting slaughtered.

30th of August is great, I was actually expecting it to probably be later than that.. like in the autumn. This is good news, only 2 and bit months! I wish they'd release more videos of the game though... or a beta!

Think i'll pass, the older games weren't bad but the maps seemed to boil down to people hiding in corners sniping. Anytime you started a new round the sniper classes were always the first to be whored out, and nomatter what the person using it never gave it up even if he hadn't a single kill.

I wouldn't really call it an alternative for BF3, if it's anything like the original (which well it will be) then not as accessible.

Who wants it to be accessible?
I want it to be gritty, hardcore and brutal!

Although I have read a few bits and bobs on it and they have stated that they will make it more accessible this time around, but will not sacrifice the hardcore nature.

This will definitely keep me occupied until BF3! :D

Tripwire Interactive has announced its WWII shooter, Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad, is scheduled for worldwide release on August 30, 2011. In addition, Tripwire announced Red Orchestra 2 will feature both the Valve Anti Cheat System from Steam, and Punkbuster.
:mad::mad:
On August 30th, 2011 Tripwire Interactive will give you the opportunity to experience war in a whole new way with the release of Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad. PC Gamer declared Red Orchestra 2 "a generational leap for WWII shooters. It simply has the most impressive systems I’ve seen in an FPS." The game will be available simultaneously worldwide through Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/35450/) and other digital outlets, as well as in retail stores across the world, all on August 30th, 2011. MSRP will be $39.99 for the USA, with appropriate local pricing for other territories.

Tripwire Interactive are also very excited to announce the selection of PunkBuster™ Anti-Cheat software and PBBans streaming ban support for the game. "With the selection of PunkBuster and PBBans in addition to VAC we're taking a three pronged approach to cheat protection for Red Orchestra 2," said John Gibson, Tripwire Interactive President. "We hope this sends a strong message to gamers that we take cheating very seriously and are tackling it head on BEFORE the game ships."

Red Orchestra 2 redefines the WWII shooter genre with unique and innovative gameplay including first person cover, immersive first person tank warfare, all new multiplayer gametypes including the multiplayer campaign mode, and unrivaled weaponry with systems such as full ballistics and suppression of enemies. Red Orchestra 2 also gives you the opportunity to fight through both the German attacks into the city and the Red Army's crushing reply in single player.

So you telling me VAC is superior to PB and streaming? Now that is funny.

The fact they are doing both is brilliant. I wonder which the gaming leagues will use ;)
