Red Snapper Tripods have an offer on

Just turned up. Seems like pretty good build quality. Had a quick test with the ball head to see how rigid it actually is and its very easy to use and doesn't move at all, although I can still turn it just like the video you posted suggests. Need to wait for the weather to clear up abit and I'll give it a good try out :D

:D

Yeah I found the only way to easily pack the 3 way head was to unscrew one of the arms, easy enough tbh but once you go ballhead, you don't go back!

I'm just keeping the base plate for a 2nd body :)

Stumbled upon this thread in the search for my first tripod, again for the D5100. Primary use will be landscapes and long exposures but hopefully HD filming too.
The tripods do look to be great value in comparison to what else is out there.

Are there any advantages of having a 3-way head over the ball head? As I could be tempted to take advantage of the bundle offer (RS-284 and RSH-24) and then get a ball head (RSH-61) as well if this was the case.

Also what is the difference between 3 vs 4 section tripods? I'm surprised that the 3 section appears to provide more height than the 4 section. Would there be differences in stability or is there simply better height control with the 4 section?

Anybody know what the RSH-61 ball head plate surface provides for camera protection; the website image is too low but says same QR as the RSH-12 so presumably some pads?

Can't type too much as I'm on the road but the ball head is way better than the 3 way head it makes your head spin!

I think many people dodge this brand based on price alone without realising the quality is easily on oar with the big brands costing 2x as much and these have more features.

@Ice Globe: Go ball head, if the bundle costs no more than just the legs (which it did in my case 6 months back) get the bundle as you have a spare head incase, otherwise just get the legs and the ball head. Actually, if you get the 3 way head use that on an outing then switch to the ball head, you'll appreciate it so much more. To answer the 3 vs 4 section legs, the more sections you add the less sturdy legs become, so the 4 section legs are lower in height to compensate, but are also smaller when collapsed. I have the 4 section legs I think and fully extended is quite a bit taller than myself.

@Mark A: From what I've read the movement is better on the more expensive as well as the higher weight capacity.

Just about to order a couple of ball heads (one for myself, one for my uncle), I'll let everyone know how good they are when they arrive.

Thanks, my dad uses this lense, so I'm guessing the £50 one would be the best one to go for?

I'd recommend the £50 one anyway, the difference in price isn't all that great and the extra weight will cover you for the future. In the case of that beasty though I'd definitely recommend it!

The movement and flexibility the ball head gives is so good it's not even worth considering anything else especially when the top ball head is £50!

Appears I might have a slight problem with one of the lower leg segments on my red snapper tripod :( The entire leg came off the other day without any effort at all and some plastic fittings which must have been keeping the leg attached were in a right state. I've put it back together after over an hour of trying to work out how and the leg is stiff but it doesn't fall off when extending it... so far.

Really annoying thing is the spirit level now is pretty much impossible to set correctly due to the dodgy leg lol. Looks like I'll have to get in contact with the company and see what I can do.
