Hi all,

Last weekend i visited Motor World and bought a sub and amp package.

Got it home and though to myself "do i really need this" and decided no, so left it in the boot of my car and took it back the next day.

I walked into the shop and the youth behind the counter said he could give me a refund, so he got his supervisor. The guy said i wasn't entitled to a refund, only a Credit Note, as the sub and amp had nothing wrong with it.

I expalined it had not been removed form the box, and only purchased yesterday (as an unwanted gift for brother is what they were told.)

So, after taking my credit note i wasn't happy at all, the guy was rather rude so i phoned MW Head Office and kicked off some more.

I've got the Area Manager giving me a call, but i thought i'd put this in motors as its a Motor-related purchase.

What are my chances of getting my credit note changed back into a full refund?

Cheers,

Phil

Very Slim

Just because you changed your mind doesn't mean your entitled to a refund.

It's up to the company to decide, and many say no as they get messed around so much.

I'm pretty sure i read somewhere from some advisor guy they have to give you a refund. Similar thing to the distance selling act

This would probably be better in GD i'd say..

Maybe, was hoping somebody who has had a refund from Motor World would be able to offer some info.

I've check the website but the refund policy applies to Web Purchases only.

Was the sub/amp removed from the box? Have you broken any of the outer packaging?

Say the above answers were both no, it was in the exact same condition it left the shop. I think you should be entitled to a refund.

However, if the packaging has been broken.... Lets be fair, if you ran a shop would you be impressed if people were returning goods due to changing their minds and having to sell the product at a discount due to it looking soiled? I wouldn't...

He specifically stated that it hadn't.

My next question clarifies why I asked that. I read his post and was aware it hadn't. There may be other layers of packaging.

The packaging was never opened and nothign was removed from the box.

It was literally purchased, then left in the boot, taken back next day.

Surely the distance selling act applies here then. I believe you have a period of 14 days to return items in the condition they left the shop for a refund. May be worth contacting trading standards for clarification.

I've bought a car amplifier from Motormania, and took it back an hour later saying I'd changed my mind, the one it was replacing starting working again. They refunded with no issues whatsoever.
Motorworld surely should be similar.

I'm awaiting the area manager to give me a call, so i'll see what happens then.

I was the understanding that you were entitled to a refund if the item was returned within the 14 day period.

Indeed, thats why I asked if you had damaged the packaging as this would be the only reason I can think of that they would refuse to refund you.

I was trying to look for the specific phrasing, but it seemed onlt to apply to mail order, tv, internet etc rather than the high street so this could be an exception. I'm hoping you won't have complicated things by accepting the credit note.

You are not entitled to a refund.

The distance selling act does not apply, you bought it in person

Anything they do for you is at their discretion

the credit note was more than you are entitled to unfortunately, you bought it in the shop so the DSA is not valid

If you do manage to get the area manager on the phone give him some guff about being a regular customer (you know the usual sob story) and they may refund you as a gesture of goodwill.

The distance selling act is entitled to web orders / phone orders only.

hence why it contacts distance and not in person selling act.

Looks as though the credit note is all that you will get. Ebay it.
