Refuse to buy a 1070 at current pricing

So much entitlement kicking around these days.

It's like people think NV owe them a certain performance at a certain price point. Forgetting they are a business with shareholders and they have one purpose, to make money.

From the looks of stock levels of 1070's and 1080's, plus how many people appear to have purchased them, I'd say NV have a really good market and its a pure minority sat complaining.

Oh you mean we should accept a 5% performance increase per generation for £600 and be thankful a la Intel?

No one is asking anyone to be thankful. Just accept it is a business and it owes nobody anything at all.

If the price was such an issue then they wouldn't sell any. But guess what they are selling out everywhere.

The difference between different generations of Ferrari or McLaren or Porsche don't offer massive gains on the last and they are hugely more expensive each time. Most decent supercars will cost you around a million pounds these days. Don't see everyone up in arms about that.

Just because something is in a premium market doesn't make it any less viable.

You'd see people up in arms about that if they'd previously been relatively affordable.

With the 1070 they are basically trying to charge executive saloon car money for what realistically is a ford mondeo.

I think you are the minority here, everyone else thinks we are being gouged on price. Nice work acting as the Nvidia Shill, I have a g-sync monitor and a 970, so I am the typical Nvidia fanboy and even I think what you said is ridiculous.

Our price in the UK/EU is well above and beyond what the USA are paying even with VAT.

The additional £150 for a newer generation of mid/high cards is a joke and while I could buy 5 of them right now, I'm not going to on principal. Which some of us have.

If you ever want some building works give me a shout I would love to install a kitchen for you for £35,000 or install a bathroom for £25,000 after all I am business etc.... ;):p

Seen as AMD have pretty much confirmed there is no faster polaris card, I will just wait for a 1070 but only until I can get a decent brand/cooler version for ~£350 as that is all I think they are worth and also would be inline with the MSRP set by Nvidia.

The only surprising thing is when the 1080 released everyone said you'd be crazy to pay for it as the 1070 will come in at half the price. I have no idea where they got their optimism from.

He does have a point that unfortunately people are paying these prices :| doesn't change the fact that nVidia have managed to sell a bit of old rope (figuratively speaking).

The difference is there is competition for bathroom/kitchen installations. Where as Nvidia own the mid/high end market at present.

Bad analogy. The 1070 isn't a Ferrari or a Porsche, it's a mid range card.

The reason these cards are selling out at the moment is that initial stocks were very low and early adopters will throw as much money as it takes to get their hands on the first stock.

For everyone else, this is a price sensitive segment of the market. Let's see where prices go once they have a lot of stock to try and shift and AMD have the 480 in the marketplace.

If they get the 1070 pricing right it'll sell as well as the 970 did, for as long as the 970 did (and still is). Get it wrong and it'll damage Nvidia's reputation and drive a lot of customers to AMD. Perhaps this is no bad thing, any industry without effective competition is a bad thing for consumers.

If I put my house on the market for 10x what it is worth and someone buys it, then there is demand for that house at that price. If no one buys it and it sits on the market for 6-12 months, there is no demand and the price should be lowered.

This is really simple stuff and I don't see why people attach emotions to something that is purely a transaction. I am no shill, but thanks either way.

Whatever I spend my money on I look at it in simple terms, is it worth that value to me, what level of effort does it take to earn that money and will I get a proportionate amount of use from the item compared to its value.

Regardless of other countries pricing, because we've always had some issues here with how things end up translating into Sterling. The overall increase in pricing I've seen from 980 > 980ti > 1080 was something like £150 from start to end, it really isn't as bad as people are making out for a premium high end item, you have to remember these aren't marketed at everyone.

One of the reasons I'm buying now as opposed to later is I suspect the pound will dip even further leading up to the referendum.

You may be right, but if that DOES happen we'll see a major drop in sales given the high price of it all already. No one wins if this happens.
