Refuse to buy a 1070 at current pricing

Regardless of other countries pricing, because we've always had some issues here with how things end up translating into Sterling. The overall increase in pricing I've seen from 980 > 980ti > 1080 was something like £150 from start to end, it really isn't as bad as people are making out for a premium high end item, you have to remember these aren't marketed at everyone.

This thread is about the 1070 if you hadn't noticed. So talking about prices at the "premium high end" isn't exactly relevant.

But could shoot up if we vote to remain.

Depends what the import tariffs are on electronics and technology from Asia. We could well strike up a better tariff free deal that would more than offset the temporary losses in the currency.

I believe there will be instability no matter how we vote, however it will be short term and everything will pick up again after.

It's all relevant since its the same discussion time and time again on every product release.

If NV stopped producing all other products and had only the 1070 and 1080 on the market we could fairly classify those two products into low/high (whatever you want).

The fact is its just the highest/newest generation, they still sell other products at price points suitable for low/mid/high etc etc., people just seem overly obsessed with claiming that everything outside of the latest generation shouldn't be considered in how they price their products.

If you think it's a rip off, don't buy it and don't upgrade every generation.

I splashed out on a 980Ti at release with the view of keeping it for a while - total cost was around £200 plus a bunch of old hardware and previous graphics cards. As we've seen from the benchmarks, it's not worth it to buy another card this gen unless you desperately want something new or have a ton of money to burn. I won't be buying a 10-series card.

If it's not worth it to you, don't buy it. It's not rocket surgery people!!

Funny think about the pricing is that many of you already probably own decent cards for what games/resolutions you play at so why let it bother you.

Still have to remember that a 1070 @ £400 is still faster than a 980 Ti that was selling for £500+ recently, and second hand half-baked Ti's were even still going for £380 just weeks ago, with debatable warranties etc (due to second hand).

I don't quite get why people think a brand new card with new technology and faster than a more expensive old tech recent card has to be priced lower just because of the 70,80 vs Ti naming.
Anyway, I think prices will drop, eventually. But if AMD can't up their game then fair play to nVidia for firstly creating better products and secondly having a market they can charge the prices and get sales in the quantities they want.

I think we all know the 1080/1070 are overpriced - it reminds me when Nvidia tried it on with the 780 and prices dropped to £400 after 4 months.

Just look at the last three generations - i reckon in 3-4 months the 1080 will be at the £450 mark. It's only 980 which dropped slower - but it started lower aswell.

Palit Jetstream 680 4GB
- Reduced in price 11.1% after 3-4 months. £539.99 > £479.99
- A further 3 months later, most 680s were at £399.99

Gigabyte 780 Windforce 3X 3GB
- Reduced in pridce 36.5% after 4 months. £629 > £399.99
- A further 3 months later, most 780s were at £399.99

Gigabyte 980 G1 Gaming 4GB
- Reduced in price 6.4% after 3-4 months £499.99 > £467.99
- Reduced in price a further 18.8% 7 months later. £467.99 > £379.99

Well I afford them but I just can't justify it for something which for me would have not much difference in performance and I'm a fanboy.

Computer parts are duty free.

Anyone was going to buy a 1070 but after pricing decide to hold off now?
Yup, me. Spending £260 on a 970 was a stretch for me, that's probably the most I've ever spent on a GPU and I normally go for the x60 cards. So nearly £400 for a 1070? They're not worth it to me with my 970 still doing a decent job @ 1080p.

IMO the price will drop.

GTX780 GHZ
Price: £400
Gains over previous generation high end card: around 60%

GTX470 SLI
GTX260 SLI
8800GT SLI

Price: In the region of £400 for the pair.

Bit of memory lane, I used the way back machine. You were right about the 260 pricing, but the 470 was £300 at release.

Back at the time of the 260/280 470/480 the £/$ price was close to 20% different. That alone would make up half the current difference in people's expectations. Actually the 470 was in May 2010 and the £ had dropped a lot.

For sure most of the remaining half of the current pricing is lack of competition leading to an ultimate supply and demand issue.

VAT increased April 2011 as well.

470s dropped in price quite a bit fairly soon after release then went back up a little - IIRC I got mine at £164 each or something.

EDIT: miss-remembered a bit - bought one around about release for £223 then 2 more a bit later at £164.99 when OcUK did some special offer thing.

EDIT2: I've generally done fairly well on prices though to be fair so maybe not the best guide overall but still - the 8800GTs I snagged when the price dropped by £50 for a week for no apparent reason, etc.

Zotac 980Ti Extreme - £479.99

3D Mark Ultra 4K: 4725 (Guru3D)

MIS 1080 Gaming X - £649.99

3D Mark Ultra 4K: 5445 (Guru3D)

Performance increase 980Ti > 1080: 14%
Price increase 980Ti > 1080: 35%

Kind of puts it into perspective. Not to mention the used market for £350ish on that card. Which would mean paying 85% more for 14% more performance.
