Release dates for C400, Vertex 3, G3

Any reason for the Vertex release date slip?

I've pre-ordered , 1st it was 21st (I think) then it was 23rd and today it's changed to 28th!

Hope these don't turn out to be April fools joke?

I'm keen to know too - finger on the button to buy as soon as they're available. They're the last bit I need for my new system so I really hope the date doesn't slip again!

Same, if I knew for sure the release date I would order now. However, waiting until I know for sure, always worries me to see it slip.

I'm guessing that it's a supplier delay for the whole country. I am also watching another supplier who changed ETA from "available soon" to "due in 1-2 days" on Monday and has stayed on that status since.

Fingers crossed they arrive in the UK next week - whoever gets them first gets my money :D

I know before when i have bought micron memory it was the same as crucial all i stand to be corrected.

Anyway i was looking at some micron SSD's in a us web site labelled as micron 120gb or 240gb realSSD c400

So is this essentially the awaited crucial c400 because if it is the specs are plop.

128gb 415 and 175 write
256gb 415 and 260 write.

That's correct, Crucial is a subsidiary of Micron. The Micron C400 is the same drive. Indeed their write numbers seem low compared with the Vertex 3...I'm not going to wait and see :)

You have to remember Vertex 2/3 use compression when reading and writing data. Therefore if you are writing data that is not highly compressable i.e. divx movies then you not get near the 500mb/s writes speeds advertised. But in the case of the intel and Cruicial driver you will get near the write speeds advertised.

In most case I don't think you will be writing divx files to the SSD as it reduce it life the more you write. In my case I went for the C300 64gb as it was the cheapest and best bang for the buck, as I only wanted fast reads, dont care about writes. Its just my OS drive and is very fast for small file writes i.e. 4k and that what I wanted.

So depending on your situation go for the one you want. I would go for the C400 over the Vertex 3, but that just from my experience as I have had the vertex 2, crucial M225 and the C300 in the past and all were great, did not see much speed difference between then all when using my computer.

Going from the C300/intel/Vertex 2 to the C400/intel/Vetex 3 is like going from 20mb broad band to 30mb broadband, You get the faster read and writes speed (i.e upload and download), but you are limited by other factor like you other hard drive speed (i.e. server speeds).

So If you have a hard drive get a SSD it like dialup to BroadBand, if already have a second gen SSD then going to 3rd gen is not that different.

I would only get the new ones once I sell my old ones, which I am sure I will do once a buyer comes along.

Still showing for 28th and my fingers are crossed for that. Pre ordered mine and have been checking daily - make my excitement BIGGER!

So completely confused on what to go for, have been waiting on these G3s for a long time due to the rumors of being excellent price if we go on that article up further.

Intel G3 160 GB ~£210-£220
Vertex 3 120GB £220
C400 128GB ???

Do i go for superior speed in the Vertex or higher capacity but lower specs in the G3.

I hear the vertex is bad on data such as videos but seeing as it will be used for Windows, Programs, Games and thats about it i assume the vertex for performance would be the one to go for.

The issue is the stuff i would be installing on there weighs in at 115GB already sure i can shave off some of the stuff i don't want but I can't decide would you sacrifice the speed of the vertex for the extra 40gb given by the Intel SSD?

Or Do i go down the route for now purchasing say the Vertex for better Speed and put main games and programs & windows on that and down the line buy an 80gb Intel G3 for other programs i want to boot quickly?

Well, I hear it is advisable to only fill about 80% of the capacity of the SSD, or else it degrade the performance. Not something I can back up with a link, maybe someone can help me out, its just something I have heard around.

I am like you in that my SSD (when I decide on it) will mainly be for my OS and a few games like ArmA, BF2 Project Reality, and maybe a few steam games. I can see me hitting maybe 100gb of stuff MAX, bearing in mind W7 64 is around 20gb in size. I have been waiting for the OCZ Vertex 3, however I am tempted to just get the Intel 510, due to its reliability, and it will still be damn fast.......Will wait another week max maybe.

Yeah been waiting on these, last part I need for my new system! :p I keep checking the ETA, I don't want to order until I know they're in stock.

A day or two won't make any diffrence. I've been waiting for weeks. ;)

Hi there

OCZ apologise for the delays and informed me yesterday evening they have now started shipping and we should be taking delivery early next week.

In regards to our ETA's were simply list the ETA the manufacturer gives us and they have delayed it twice now.
