Ok so lowering Shadow doesn't help, still get a random fatal d3d error. However, looking at the Steam forums thread, it seems it's a Ray tracing issue that carried over from the demo, turning RT off and the issue is completely fixed. RT in this game only covers light reflections it seems, screenspace reflections appear to be very good anyway so not really missing out on a huge amount, and fps with RT on and off is virtually the same.

Capcom should hopefully patch that soon. Otherwise game runs flawlessly and look really nice. Forces you to think strategically for sure, dying often brings me back to teen years of playing the originals and rationing ammo :o

Edit*
Did play with HDR on too, very nice use of HDR, although it is much brighter than SDR which takes away somewhat from the darker horror vibe of its original intended SDR grading, and yes it's calibrated all correctly:

Got to the church and got Ashley and finished chapter 4. Great game so far. 10/10. Basically everything good about the original just updated.
Need to sleep it's 5am

Continuation later...

Fantastic remaster for sure! Looks incredible Capcom really spent big money on this (unlike RE3 remaster where it went downhill visually after the opening section!).

Damn kids, playing all night! Us adults had to go sleep and only just woke up, eh Vincent? :p:cry:

On a serious note, glad to hear you guys enjoying the game.

Will let you know if I run into any issues later on @mrk :)

I got up early and put my bins out #adulting

I'll set it to download shortly, but won't get to play it until tonight.

However my wife is out all night on a work thing so I will be able to play it for absolutely hours.

Ha. Our bins are on Fridays also. Though I got my missus to do it instead

I got the £7 one, Deluxe Edition ready to go!

Where did you get that?

Here's how it runs in Chapter 2's start. Very well. RT reflections are off of course because of the fatal error issue affecting some, but still looks the same lol.

I haven't tried the deluxe weapons yet, saving them for a new playthrough, but if I had to guess they'll be good but look like old fashioned guns, probably not the best but fun for a playthrough.

One great thing about RE4 original I hope continues is that every gun was viable fully upgraded. Even the standard handgun was amazing with its headshot bonus when fully upgraded. Going to do a standard handgun run this time round too.

Other cool thing is that the storage cases give buffs, the pre order gold case gives extra money for example, the keyrings you can add give gun stats or healing stats, really nice feature. Also some side quests are added which is great. Leon congratulating himself when you get a good shot sometimes is pretty funny as well.

I played most of RE4 original this week too, it compares very well to the original, they changed and upgraded so much that even playing both in succession feels like totally different games in many places.

I didn't read up on the storage case colour etc and keyrings you can hang, just thought they were cosmetic pretty things and figured leon had turned into a teenage girl or something, but knowing that now, makes sense :D
