Resistance is Futile - AMD RX 9070 Borg Armada - OcUK Kings of Stock (1000's in stock)

I'm not really sure how it all works; there were Gigabyte Gaming OCs and Steel Legends going for MSRP. Neither of these are MSRP cards. Gibbo said it was AsRock who gave him the green light for the Steel Legend pricing.

So are AMD rebating the AIBs or the retailers? All seems very strange.

The fact is that nothing of the sort is happening on the green side, quite the opposite in fact.

Well, they are both only the second tier up from the base model...

The steel legend is being gouged to high heaven now. There is normally only a £10-£20 difference between the challenger and the steel legend. Same for the Sapphire Pure etc. The gigabyte one would normally only be that small amount above the base windforce or whatever.

The AIBs and retailers are trying it on with the "premium" models.

Nvidia does its own charity work to support "MSRP" using its own store and sells the FE model when they give a ****.

I hav enever bought a gpu on launch day, anything in stock was always at least 10% but normally 20-25% over the normal sale price, for any model. Was always better to wait a month, then pre order one that was at its actual price, wait a week or two and then it would arrive.

When did everyone collectively decide they have to have gpu's on launch day? If everyone was willing to wait, scalping for very much would fail, then stop.
Has it been driven by "younger/newer" gamers growing up and "affording" high end/scalped gpus, being driven by fomo and a lack of patience? Then causing everyone else to jump on it since prices are so unstable?
Or did everyone collectively wake up after the 30 series launch pricing doubling so quickly and decide launch day is the only way?

I do think there is a massive hangover from the 3xxx series/mining boom. That made sense as they were money printers and therefore had pretty much infinite demand until mining became unprofitable for the casual user again.

It's now just a self fulfilling prophecy that every launch is like this because these threads are full of people saying things like: " they'll never be MSRP", "you'll never get one for months and months" , "scalpers will take them all" etc.

Also, people are addicted to the dopamine rush of getting one and beating everyone to it. GPU releases seem to have gone the same way as console or phone releases.

Ultimately, not really sure how to put the genie back in the bottle now. I'm hopeful that if scalpers get burned enough at some point, they will be much more wary of trying to make a quick buck on them. Fingers crossed it happens with this release and AMD continue to flood the market with thousands and thousands of these things every few weeks.

For me, I always waited, but the last few generations nothing improved until near the EOL and in many cases prices went up.

I've not upgraded in 7-8 years so i decided i wont wait this time if I can get one, and getting one earlier seems better or i'm just in the same situation as before, waiting pointlessly for something better that never happens.

If my understanding is correct retailers get rebates from the AIBs then if AMD are willing they reimburse the AIBs.

Will be interesting to see if AMD offer rebates or cut the costs of the chips to AIB's on the understanding they try to meet MSRP over the next few weeks, based on their comments on social media.

I'm pessimistic that this will be the case and its likely those social media posts were just for show and nothing will actually happen, but you never know.

The nVidia 50 series has shown that ramping up of production and stock can be really slow.

Well, congratulations to everyone that got their XT at MSRP, I ain't paying a penny more than 570GBP for basic model (and AIBs at +200GBP on top for a slightly better cooler and RGB strip is completely delusional - at that markup better to start looking into the greener pastures as stock situation stabilizes and actually get improved performance over what 9070XT can offer) so I guess see you around in 6-9 months on seasonal sale.

Good luck ! Don’t hold your breath if you think you’ll see a 5070TI or 5080 anywhere near MSRP soon.

Might be sooner than we think. The 5070ti seems to be sticking around in stores between £850-£900 now. I could buy one right now if I wanted to which is an improvement (obviously I wouldn't at that price).

Just depends on what Nvidias supply is like really, going forward.

The fact that thousands of people have just bought 9070XTs and 9070s will help ease the pressure on 5070/5070Ti demand too.

It won't matter what they do. Until demand drops & supply catches up, prices will remain high. Even bringing back the rebates won't fix the problem entirely as many of the MSRP cards will just wind up being resold for profit on eBay.
