Retro console and games thread

Finding it hard to pick up undamaged gamecube games , I just buy my stuff mainly from charity shops and 2nd hand shops but if I find any games they are always scratched to hell

Did anyone go to the Play Expo in Manchester last week? I finally got in after queuing for 2 hours.

It was nice to play a lot of retro games in their original form, especially the arcade games and consoles I’ve never seen before. Shame the Killer Instinct arcade was switched off, guess it was broken:(

Yep I went with a friend, we had a bite to eat in the Trafford Centre expecting the queue to be gone when we returned only to find it even worse. Wandered to the front to find out if the place was actually open yet and we noticed a smaller seperate queue with a chap just taking exact money so got in virtually straight away. The two large queues outside seemed to just converge into one queue in the main lobby area, very strange and not very well organised. Hopefully they'll learn from this for next years.

Really enjoyed playing all the old retro games, was annoyed to find I missed the Sensible Soccer tournament though! We spotted it just as the semi-finals were being played. The new stuff at the show didn't really interest me as I'd been to Eurogamer a couple of weeks ago so we mainly ended up playing old games and the arcades.

Overall very impressed though, hopefully next year they won't be let down by company providing the PA gear so the planned talks can go ahead.

Gamecube games seem to scratch easily. I normally try and find new copies for this reason, even if it means paying a premium.

see i like the thrill of the hunt :P and to get things cheap as chips but at the minute after looking at the zelda's and resident evils i have that are unreadable with scratches,i might have to start buying premiums

i have also had a few with the centre of the discs cracked

I went and thoroughly enjoyed it :) the only negative I have (minus the saturday 2 hour queue!) was the Pro Gaming section, the fps gamers in particular were just too loud and over the top, (I saw one guy get get kicked out!) The fighters on the other hand were well behaved and it was cool watching so many great SSF4 players :D

The killer instinct machine was switched back on for the sunday BUT the medium+Fierce Kick buttons were broken :( I still managed to finish it on one credit but it was bloomin hard lol

I guess the biggest highlight for me was showing some 10 year old kid how to play Goldeneye and him saying he was enjoying it more than COD  When I have kids I want to train them to think this way too lol :p

some 50p charity shop bargains today, They had loads of sports games all in really good condition which was surprising as most of the time they are battered

tbh i don't know why i buy them because i don't play them. I mainly collect and play gamecube games.I have a boxed mint ps1 which i wanted a few games for and ended up just buying them when i see them at charity shops and bootsales.

I'll get my Lordvale Neo Geo MVS arcade cabinet any day now. It's been a long journey organizing getting a cabinet with living in an apartment but it's going to be happening very soon. I have a four slot connected to a supergun this machine has a 1 slot in it with a 168 in 1 MVS cartridge. Which will be handy as I won't have to keep switching out all the Neo Geo games I've purchased.

I hope Pulse Star and Blaze Star is on it because they look great fun. Even though I suck at shmups.

Just found replacement cables for the 32x to Megadrive 1. I bought a 32x a few years back but was never able to use it due to missing this cable. Yay.

I noticed that too, some of the serious SSF4 players there with their expensive arcade sticks. Wanted to join in but....nah...I would get crushed.

Same with me, the Wii U etc I already played at Eurogamer so none of that interest me this time. Spent 30mins playing Zenki FX on the PC Engine FX, time flew when I was on it. That's a next retro console I be looking to add to my collection.

Don't think I will go again though, retro will always stay retro but due to what was there this year I see this evolving into another Eurogamer Expo, which I go to every year anyway. Hope this doesn't force the retro sections to get smaller over time and the current games to get bigger.
