Retro console and games thread

Yeah, got a link to, and ordered some slimmer holders that other people have used. Only bummer is that they're coming from Taiwan.

I'm dieing to play some Chrono Trigger and FF. :(

Cant you just use the holders you have now temporarily and not put the cartridge case back on?

Edit - suppose that would bugger the save up though disconnecting the battery to fit a new holder.

I still have an original Nintendo Game & Watch Donkey Kong in my possession.

Most retro gaming thing I still own.

Sdly over the last few years of moving I had to get rid off my SNES, Megadrive and Amstrad CPC464+ with colour monitor. Although managed to keep hold of a few SNES games and my Gamecube.

You could just use a couple of extension wires from PCB to battery holder and insulate with a bit of tape, might not look as neet but it would work and once the cartridge is back together you wouldn't see it anyway.

Got my lead for my Amstrad to plug into my TV
and it works !

Any Amstrad users ?

The screen doesn't look perfect, i.e. I see shadows where the letters are, is that normal ?

I really need help with this Amstrad

I got it on my TV at the moment, I press ESC and ENTER

it then says "press PLAY then any key"

so I press play on the tape and I press a key
it kicks in but tape isn't moving :(

help

Type

|Tape ( the "|" symbol can be obtained by pressing SHIFT and "@" (at) together on the Amstrad keyboard. )

Press Enter then type

Run"

If the tape motor isn't moving, it may be a tape belt issue or worse power :(

Took my chances on this :) as well as a... cartridge which you might say is "EZ" to "flash"...

thanks Neil

managed to get it working in the end, including the monitor !!

tape motor was going , but the tape wasn't moving, so I ejected the tape, and pushed it down again and now it works

I never actually tried to race around the track in SCR, I just drove off the edges as fast as I could all the time lol. I must have been about 8 at the time too.

Here's what I'm trying to do.

I want to put in a holder, rather then solder a new battery. But the holders that I've bought are too tall. Too big for me to shut the cart.

You can get battery holders on ebay that are a perfect fit, I have used them many times in my games. This guide shows you how to mod them slightly to fit the snes cart PCB: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYFXNEH_vvk&spfreload=10

This is the one I added to my Chrono Trigger cart a couple of weeks ago:

You order the holders from here, they come from HK but only take 1-2 weeks to arrive and are cheap as chips :)

Edit: Ah sorry I just read the post that you ordered some from Taiwan. Still check the YouTube video out, you need to bend the contacts and trim one of them, nail scissors are pretty good for that. Also super glue the copper contacts down before bending the contact ends so it won't lift them off the other side. I haven't had any issues with these holders and I've added them to over a dozen carts so far :) Have fun playing CT and FF 6 awesome pickups! I'll get a copy of FF 3/6 at some stage as well hopefully.

My battery holders turned up today, but too tired to fit them, because I had a cycle to Canterbury to visit a shop that has a nice collection of retro wares. ;)

Came away with these beauties!

There is nothing like digging around in a box of loose carts and seeing what you can find. :D

They also have some great arcade machines as well.
Excuse the poor pictures, taken on my phone.

I would like to name the shop, but not sure I'm allowed.
Quite easy to find in Canterbury though, I highly recommend it. Competitive with pricing too.

yeah you're only not allowed to name direct competitors that are PC builders. Other retailers that might happen to sell something the same as OcUk such as Amazon are fine.
