Retro console and games thread

Have spent a fair bit of money recently swapping my PAL stuff for NTSC but I'm really pleased I did. Bought the PS2 a few months ago but currently have no games for it as I have no idea what's worth buying.

and the Sony Trinitron I got for a fiver off eBay...

So many TVs up for £5 or so, I want one now but don't want to have to travel too far. :(

They'd be brilliant for some retro gaming on the side if I got a SNES or Megadrive sometime, I doubt they'd look that good blown up on my 42"

Big CRTs seem to go for next to nothing, probably because they're such a pain to move. Can't beat them for playing old games though. I had to get one as I found wall jumps on Super Metroid completely impossible on an LCD due to the delay. That's my excuse anyway :p

I remember shelling out around £400 for a 21" Sony Trinitron when I had my Japanese DC as none of my other TV's played it in colour :o

I've always found my LCD fine for them. :o Would get a big CRT just for kicks if I had the space though.

Glad it's one of the last of the breed with a terrestrial aerial input rather than some terrible freeview tuner. Got RCA cables for all the consoles I can though. :)

CRTs are ESSENTIAL for Light gun shooters, and its the reason I would get one. I don't think any old games look absolutely horrid on my LCD (Sony W2000), they look as intended really, just they are rather a lot larger than anyone is used to. Granted emulators can use their smoothing algorithms extra buffering to make games look better, but they aren't the same. I would like to buy a decent little flat screen CRT. LG released a "Retro" looking CRT in Korea that LOOKS awesome, that I'd love to get if they were available here.

I think i'm getting the retro console bug. I've got my old Master System out for the first time in years and i've just bought a Snes on the ebay :D

Just set up my daughters room all nice for her in my new flat. Problem is, the DVD player wigged out, so as a temporary measure I broke out my old PS2...

Spent all night looking for all the old PS2 games I used to have on eBay!! Oops :)

Im moving out in a few months, going to make the spare room into a retro room and setup all my old consoles in there. Waiting for a decent CRT to pick up from the usual 2nd hand shops.

My favourite Zelda game and also my favourite SNES game. Still got mine with box in the cupboard sitting next to Donkey Kong Country (just checked). :D

£12 on the bay. An absolute bargain I think, it seems to be on there for £20 - £30+ usually.

Yeah when I was after it I thought it was silly how much it goes for usually nice bargain.

I need to add to my retro collection thinking bout getting a few bits this month. I'd love to get a nice 21" CRT tv to enjoy these games on, the mega drive n snes aren't to bad on my HD tv 37" LG however the dreamcast looks terrible but looks good on my samsung 32".

Finally got round to sorting some shelves out for my retro games as well now, much nicer than having them hidden away in random boxes and cupboard.
