Retro console and games thread

I just bought jet force gemini this week for n64! Never played it wither so looking forward to trying it and banjo as that one passed me by some how! Mario 64 all the way :D

My 8 year old daughter had a fantastic time playing Battletoads with me earlier. TBH she has had more fun with these Retro games than anything on her Xbox 360!

Same as my 10 year old daughter, i stuck my old 360 in her bedroom and bought her a few games, not really interested.

Stick banjo K on the ps1 / ps2 and she loves it.

You've got to quick if you want the bargains.

I was browsing Guntree last night and saw a listing for a GameCube and two GameBoy Advance consoles with accessories and games. The games were what made it. Twilight Princess, Mario Kart Double Dash, Mario Sunshine and Super Monkey Ball were the highlights, with a few other GameCube games and a couple of GameBoy.

All for just £30

The listing was 12 minutes old when I called and basically people were already on their way. The guy said he'd call me back if it didn't sell, but I knew it would go.

Prices on eBay are mostly over £50, so I'll never buy one. My only chance is buying something like I missed yesterday.

One if these days I might even play a Zelda game.:D

its mad isnt it? im not having luck on shpock, maybe im doing it wrong but its listing adds that are months old at the top. adjusted filters but still get it!

wondering if local charity shops might be worth a look!

I actually emailed the developers about that problem months ago. There should be a time limit that automatically deletes listings after 30 days. As it stands items that have sold and marked as sold by the seller. Or the seller is no longer using app, the items wil continue to show up in a search. And if someone finds the ad after it's been dormant for a while it gets bumped back up the list.

Then there's the fact that video games and consoles don't have a category of their own, so so can't just browse all items. So you have to use specifi search words, but even that doesn't find everything.

So I end up searching for

Nintendo, Sega, PlayStation, Xbox, NES, SNES, N64, Mega Drive, Megadrive, Master System, Saturn, Dreamcast, Dream Cast, Play Station, ps1, ps2, PS3, PSOne, ps one, GameCube, game cube, Wii, GameBoy, game boy, consoles, retro consoles.

Then there a few other for misspelt listings

Saga, Nontendo, n65, n63

Also be aware that search words included in the description count as well, so most items show up as you'd expect because the correct word is in the description.

talking about Gumtree, just had a look "within 30 miles" of me

just found a Spectrum + (yes the + version!) boxed with manual and games etc for £45

I saw that earlier. If I knew more about Sinclairs I might have snapped it up. I've still got my 16K I bought last summer in my cupboard. I only payed £20 for it boxed with about 40 original games, and it seemed like a bargain at the time, but eBay prices are so up and down I don't really know what it's worth. Probably not a lot.

Puyo Pop Fever in that video.....SO many hours put into that game. Get a copy!

Xbox and PS2 are pennies and cube is around a tenner normally

Problem is charity shops are now pricing up against eBay.

I saw Legend of Dragoon for the PS1 in a charity shop 2 years ago. No pricing on the box so I asked how much, he told me £80  I walked out and never stepped foot in there again.

Yea will need to try a carboot soon, may do next weekend, we have a few around here.

I imagine ps1s arent worth much these days? Wouldnt mind grabbing one. A local ad on gumtree comes with some 55ish games but none of them really appeal for £60, obviously i could move the games on but not sure if its worth doing

I think I'm too timid for car booting. You literally have to be climbing into cars if you want the goods before the throngs of general bargain hunters get a look in (you can assume every buyer at that car boot knows games are worth money). It doesn't help my local car boots within 25 miles are controlled by the same 'gang' of 4 or 5 who buy up every game and DVD without looking what's there, and can be quite bullying to sellers and other buyers.

A PS1 console is barely worth a fiver but the games can go for good amounts. There's the advantage too that they're often very cheap and much more common than N64/SEGA stuff. Games like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Silent Hill, some Final Fantasy titles can all fetch £15-20. And there's a whole lot more worth £5-10.
