Retro console and games thread

So if i get a hdmi converter that will do the job, i dont really want to spend loads and loads of cash but connecting via hdmi would suit

For ps2 and Wii I bought a small HDMI adapter known as "PS2 to HDMI" and "Wii to HDMI" they range in price all around £8ish. Does the job, essentially on par with a Component connection, minimal difference really. It pretty much taps in to that signal and just sends it out via HDMI instead.

With ps2 mind, you first need to plug it in via composite (red yellow and white, or scart) because you need to change the output in the system settings. Then you can use the HDMI adapter. If you don't do this, you won't get a picture only sound ;)

Also check your modern tv supports the resolution for these systems. 480i/p I believe?

Couple of my Spectrums here, a nice shape 48K and VGC “toastrack”, both fully recapped :)

“Main” ZX81 with heatsinks on all chips, recapped, 32k internal RAM expansion, composite mod, tact switch keyboard and ZXPand SD interface :)

All fully boxed with all original bits :D

They look fantastic! Mine aren’t quite on the same level and not all boxed either but they were all cheap!

I’d love a QL, should have bought one before they went up in value so much :(

I

I have tended to buy the best but it has cost me to do so.

Yeah I can see, they look fantastic. Tried to get the best ZX80 I could find but the rest were good condition bargains. I would love an issue 1 Spectrum but the prices they fetch :O

Just ordered 64mb of SIMM RAM for an old Pentium desktop project I’ve had in the loft for years plus a new RTC chip and it’ll need a new hard drive but after picking it from a skip sometime in 2004 it still works fine :D

Definitely look at the IDE-Compact Flash adaptors. I've got a couple in various things and they're useful as hell.

I’ve seen those knocking about and was about to pick up a couple of cheap CF cards and adapters but then someone advised me they’re much slower than a proper PATA SSD and the cards will wear out quicker?

I may still pick up a couple for my lesser used systems, pick a “main” one and get an actual PATA SSD for it

Mine have been fine for 18-24 months. Speeds are good the machines are limited to DMA33 or UDMA 66, so anything above that is wasted.
Not used a PATA SSD, didn't even know that they'd made them tbh.

Well I have one too in my Amiga now I think about it which has been fine for about 3 years or so now. They are still available on eBay probably slightly more expensive than the equivalent SATA version, I didn’t know they existed either until someone told me about them.

I’ll probably pick up 1 for my most used system and go CF for the rest of them.

Just bought an absolute mint Vic20 with all the boxes and loads of bits on eBay for £139. I was a package, so boxes in boxes which is always good as the outer box takes the hit but the stuff inside is also boxed so looks like new and to be fair the outer box (containing Vic20/Tape Deck/Games/Stuff) is mint too.

:D
