Retro console and games thread

He can't advertise it as Secret of Mana when that = the western versions of the game.

If you wanted the Japanese version, you would have bought Seiken Densetsu 2.

I'm a little confused when the first google entry for that is -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_of_Mana

"Secret of Mana, known as Seiken Densetsu 2 (聖剣伝説2?, lit. "Holy Sword Legend 2") in Japan"

I'm not sure who is arguing for what :)

It's the same game, but known under a completely different name in Japan.

If the seller was advertising it as SoM, I'd expect it to be the an English version, and understandably miffed to receive a Jap one.

The item was listed as Secret of Mana so I expected secret of mana not Seiken Densetsu 2. There is a BIG difference. Seiken Densetsu 2 is in Japanese, Secret of Mana is not.

It turns out the seller put a description in but rainforest didn't display it. He sent a screenshot with the recipt at his end saying Japanese Famicom version. Now I've looked at other marketplace listings and there are NO descriptions anywhere for any other marketplace item and there are no descriptions on any of the emails or in the account section of the website for this transaction. So I had no way of seeing this description.

After holding out an olive branch to him he's offered just under a 75% refund (basically I pay all the shipping both ways and his rainforest fees). I shouldn't have to foot the bill but I'm growing tired of the **** so I'm going to take him up on it and hope he is honest enough to refund when he gets the cart back.

Moral of the story = don't buy from rainforest marketplace

Does rainforest DSR come into effect with such marketplace?
Also if you are sure the product did described was not the same as the one you received then this is a no brainer trade descriptions act thingy surely?
The fact that he claims the description was placed on his listing but didnt appear is his fault not yours. If he has a problem with this then he should take this up with the provider of the server i.e. rainforest and not make you pay for his/rainforests mistake.

Furthermore, if you want to play with game and you have a SNES then there is no way you can play this game since its for a Famicom which is not compatible with SNES (er right?).

In terms of cash etc between the two different versions, what are we talking about here?

Assuming you mean the difference between what I paid and the going rate for the english version it was about £15 (yeah I know too good to be true etc.)

Incidentally on the too good to be true anyone after Shenmune on DC would do well to look on the auction site right now!

I picked up a classic today from my local Retro gaming shop :D

Oh Mega Man brings back so many memories - which one was it that had an orange clay circle boss that flew across the screen in bits? Could never do that as a kid :/

Megaman 1 & 2 are awesome, 8 bit classics. :)

Very difficult to play in their original form though (i.e. without save states!) :p

You're not kidding! :p I don't think I ever managed to finish the first game on an actual NES console, that "orange blob" boss being one of the very reasons lol Megaman 2 on the other hand was really easy (In comparison) especially when you realise that the "Metal Blade" weapon makes the game incredibly easy :D

Isn't it amazing how we've become so used to 'almost unlimited save points' in most modern games now ... I recently got back into some retro gaming with a Snes and re-bought a couple of my all time favourites, Another World and Flashback and can't believe how I used to manage on such limited level save points lol ... some levels drive me up the wall

But it's still very enjoyable :D

Postman came today

8 quid! :D (my disc 2 is knackered from my original copy and iv lost the box). The discs are pretty much mint too!

Still in the hunt for the second one at some point, and still waiting for powerstone to get redirected here and the n64 passport 3 to turn up form play asia
