Retro console and games thread

Very pleased, just picked up a copy of Streets of Rage 3 for a tenner! As I'm sure some of you know this isn't the cheapest game to get your hands on as its sought after but at that price it's a steal! If anyone else wants a copy the seller still has 4 left! Search 251204638588 on a certain auction site :)

Picked up a couple of bits yesterday. Local shop had a £52 credit note for sale for £40 as well as a 3 for 2 offer going on so managed to get all of this plus an Atari 2600 junior and controllers.

I did/do have a 2600 wood grain ordered from eBay but as that was purchased on the 10/12 and hasn't shown up I'm not confident that it will.

The Turbografx works and Bonk's Revenge that came with it is a really nice platformer.

Depends what model and motherboard revision it is. The later ones generally have poorer quality audio as everything became more integrated.

From Thailand would you trust it :confused:

They are MD2's

I take it the best ones to have are MD1 with the High Definition Graphics and Stereo Sound on the unit? But aren't there numerous revisions with the HD Graphics? Which ultimately is the best MD1?

The earlier revisions are the better ones to go for. VA0 to VA5 are the best, with VA6 having the TMSS screen but still having better audio circuitry, and anything after that having pretty poor audio and occasionally bad video too.

Also as Jaymond said, being from Thailand there's a good chance it's just a reproduction console as the MD has had TONS of clones.

I love the look of this and the fact it comes with a proper joy stick. My local store is getting one in so hope to try one soon. The early reviews on Amazon US mentioned some problems with screen tearing and latency using the joystick so I'd be interested to see if these issues are fixed.

Any link the aforementioned issues bud? Thanks.

So far I havent tried the actual joystick/charging station via HDMI on my TV screen.

Oh dear, ive heard very bad things about that, not on par with an original Neo Geo :

Blurry screen
Cheaply made
The hdmi output is meant to be awful
Screen tearing

I did my research as i wanted one so badly but after some reviews i decided no.

Considering the review is comparing the X on a TV vs the AES on an LCD? (not to mention different speakers etc). Not sure its a fair test, but I cannot comment as to the veracity of the issues he is raising.

Based on my experience thusfar of just the handheld, I'd have to say it feels really solid your hands yet light and very comfortable.

But as I said, I have not tried the HDMI/charger unit on the TV so I cannot comment about that yet.

Also if you look at other reviews, different people have different opinions on it.

What it doesnt have going for it is the price for sure. You can pick up a next gen console for similiar/less than what you can pick this up for (But then the flipside is, you get 20 odd games with this as opposed to the one or two with a next gen).

I didnt get a chance to play with one of these before buying it, I took a plunge and I am very happy with the purchase. But if you are on the fence, then definitely try to track one down and play it in the flesh (as opposed to just depending on youtube videos) this is a product which only YOU can decide whether its for your or not.
