Retro console and games thread

I don't think it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJwdfdiuDMA and here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZHXIGETSDU
it seems to play the cartridges directly and is of quite a high standard inc the controller. I was quite impressed.

if that's what (or similar) neil has got, I don't see the point of it? you still need the original games, so if you still have all 3 systems, then you don't need this thing?
I guess one good thing is that you can plug 1 system into TV instead of all 3 ?

I suppose you could see it that way. I think they're aimed at enthusiasts and for the price you do get all three systems in one quite well made unit.

I think there may be an advantage with the s video and composite outputs graphically also over the original RF but there again I think there may be adapters for the original units out there that help with this.

The Retron 5 unit, though more expensive, appears to offer HDMI along with various other emulator specific graphical enhancements.

Nah, video is a downgrade at least for the SNES and Megadrive side. Both of those do RGB, while this is does not. NES is only can only do composite, so improvement for the NES, but not the other two.

Seems to be a problem with a load of clone units, they downgrade the video out to s-video and composite only, when the original units do RGB.

oh right I thought the old consoles only did RF for some reason(which is what I used when I was a kid). I suppose in my naivety I also assumed that all s-video enabled units could split to RGB with a cable and appropriate scart adapter.

Had a great find this morning best one in a while came across this console could have had it for £5 if i was faster but another trader picked it up so i asked him out right if he was selling it and he said yeah £15 so i grabbed it still a good deal at that i think, playstations 1 games were a £1 each, finds like this make it worth getting up early lol

Nice find, still after a Amiga CD 32 myself. Might have to settle for a CD drive for my Amiga 1200.

Look what santa dropped off at IRN!

This is the Super Retro TRIO developed by Retro-Bit; an impressive looking (NES / SNES / Genesis/Megadrive - 3 in 1 System ), that can play those old console games without actually having to switch consoles. Today we are going to give you that hardware review and give our final opinion from both myself Neil and my other staff writer David.

As promised our review of the Super Retro TRIO... You'll see it has it's positives and it's negatives and one major issue which screwed up any chance of me playing NES games. :(

Cheers for the review bud. Well written! (Some typos btw - "of cause" :p but I digress!)

In all honesty it sounds like there are some short commings of the device.

Can you confirm that infact it is an emulator?

No worries bud! Don't beat yourself up about the spelling. Can happen to any of us :)

Love the format of the review. Simple to read. Great screenies (didn't know it supported control ports of all the various consoles!).

Who does the site belong to btw?

Mine, over 2 years of hard work :)

In other news, I've just sent off for a request for the RetroN 5, which is the very latest in multi retro console tech :D

I liked the review... but I can't say I share the feeling on the unit. The poor output and the NES not working, shame really :(

Most likely a hardware fault as this can occur on real NES devices as well, but in regard to the poor output, I agree :(. Still though for £69.99 it's a good price and way under what the Retron 5 is going to be.

Hopefully we get a working version in or the Retron 5 itself :D

Right the time has come....my trusty 32" CRT is going as been offered a 42" lcd panel through work for literally pennies!

Anyone fancy a free Pansonic PD30?

I'm after a SNES- what is the going rate for an ebay/gumtree working SNES + pads and a couple of games? Only an ordinary PAL snes, nothing special.

Does the SNES use the same video out 'socket' as the N64, and gamecube, and wii...
