Retro console and games thread

I few recent NTSC-U/C PS1 game pickups, all discs are as new and I swapped the cases with new ones. So for all intents and purposes they are mint. I sold my PAL games from back in the day last year and have slowly been picking up the NTSC version of my favourite ones.

Its quite hard to get them with nice condition discs as those black PS1 discs scratch by looking at them, guess I'm really lucky of late and very picky when asking about condition ;)

After tinkering with it today, one of the cables pick up freeview and the other didn't. I'm able to get the system to display but I think it's more a system issue now. Sometimes when I load a game up, it doesn't actually load properly, and just gives a black screen. Takes few resets to get the game running but it does work.

Games not loading on a cartridge based system is pretty much the norm if it's not been used for awhile due to a bit of grime/corrosion on the pins. Plenty of cartridge cleaning vids on Youtube to check out although i find a quick rub on the pins with a dry cotton bud usually does the trick

Just had a decent little pickup me and my brother went half's cost us £140 but some nice games there:

Kirbys Dreamland 3
turtles in time
super metriod
marvel war of the gems etc

Where is the best place to buy a rumble pack for the N64? Only thing I don't seem to have.

Also, recommend me some games for the N64 and SNES (mainly SNES though).

At the moment I'm playing Mario, Zombies and I've started my journey on Mystic Quest (loving this game). I do also have Zelda which I want to play again but I need to find the cartridge.

Thanks for the tip, hopefully it can sort out the issue.

I've been putting together a little collection for my Son's 8th birthday tomorrow.

Think he'll be a little bit made up!

Thats a really nice setup. I'm sure your son will be made up.

He was, his face was a picture when he saw that lot in his room.

Playing Forza split screen with my my boy was epic ** bites fist and holds back a tear **

Now that's pretty impressive for an 8 year old. I'm happy to see someone of young age take interest in older generation consoles :)

What's the game collection like?

He's a very lucky boy, some of them I had before and I've been watching GameTrader on FB for some quick deals too.

Games wise it's pretty good but some holes in there.

We have the complete GranTuriso Collection up to 4
Loads of MD carts in Sensible Soccer, Cannon Fodder & Toki
Some MS carts inc Sonic 1 &2
Lylat Wars & GoldenEye for N64 plus loads more. Will get a pic tonight.

Most of them are the games I enjoyed playing as a kid. He's very much into many of the older racing and shooting games - Golden Eye is a favorite!

I have a non yellowed snes with official controller ( no boxes ) and cables plus Mario kart ( cart only ) that I just brought down from the loft if anyones interested I could stick it in the MM?

Also found a mega drive 1 with a batch of games inc all 3 sonics, MK3 and a few more nice ones I can do the same via MM. have just took pics of both setups if anyones interested.

cheers, Garry

mega drive verion - 1601-05
snes - snsp-001a(ukv)

edit - and a Phat PSP on cfw 6.39
psp version - 1003

This is his collection so far.

The collection doesn't show all the PSP games and also his 3DS stuff.

Gonna slow down with the purchases now and maybe do a few local boot sales with him.

Only the single SNES game? Buying Zelda is a must. Nice collection going on so far, looks like he enjoys sports / adventure / fighting / racing games?

I need to try and find a MegaDrive, ours is broke and we have loads of games for it :(

I originally only got the SNES for NBA Jam. It's still a cracking game! HE'S ON FIRE!!!

Most of the games I bought to my tastes and not his. Now he has a good selection I'm sure I'll be getting more requests.

Feeling a bit cheated today, man flu isn't helping.
I won Pop 'n' Twinbee Rainbow Bell Adventures for the SNES, all for the low price of £4 + P&P. Game turns up today and it's just regular Pop 'n' Twinbee, which is a SHMUP, rather then a platformer.

Not the biggest SHMUP fan, but I infinity prefer horizontal over vertical shooters anyday.

I'm not going to send it back, not for the grand total of £6.50, but I'm not sure what to do about the ebay seller. While he does have the correct picture of the cart, he has the listing down as Rainbow Bell Adventures.

Did the picture not raise your suspicions? I don't use Ebay often so I wouldn't know, have you mentioned this to him? Demand back the P&P :p

Under the new rules you should be able to return it and the seller is liable for the return postage. I'm not sure if there is a limit or if that allows you to send it back special delivery.
