Retro console and games thread

My first Zelda game too. Got the bonus disk with Ocarina on it, which I started playing last week.

I don't think it's embarrassing. You either grew up with NES then SNES or, in my case, Master System and Mega Drive. If it was the later then Zelda games would've passed you by.

After the Mega CD I went PlayStation 1 and 2. The kids had an N64 and GameCube, but I only ever play Mario 64 and Sunshine on those systems. That was only when they got stuck. I was too busy playing online FPS games on PC to bother with consoles in the early 2000's.

Yeah it's the 2 disc version I managed to nab. Should they be played in any particular order?

I missed out on all Nintendo consoles except the Gamecube when I was growing up. Super chuffed I managed to get my hands on the original SNES though.

The good thing about the Zelda series is that each new game is a reboot and generally a new story so you can play them in any order.

Another Friday finds post lol, had alook through what i left last week it had obviously been picked through more, but what i missed last week and what others had obviously overlooked was this:

Its the less common World Champions limited edition. None boxed on ebay at the moment but the last one sold was for £69.99 (and that box was destroyed) but seen some sell for £160+. I picked it up for £12, might sell it and add to my Dreamcast or Saturn collection :)

Nice find.

I'd sell it and buy something more worth while. That is unless you're an avid SNES collector.

There's always a couple of sports games in every systems library that ends up being rare or collectable.

Beginning to think your loft is an abandoned Game store.

Heh, the sad thing is that have given a lot of stuff away from consoles to games etc to family and friends, otherwise i would have even more.
I gave away my collection of SNES games to a friend over 15 years ago.
I had some rare carts in that collection too :(

The main thing to me is that if I pass or sell on the stuff is that the person who gets them will have fun using them.

That's what it's all about, I despise the re-sellers who are just out to make money.

Yeah, I rather it go to a home where it will bring hours of entertainment than to a re-seller looking to profit

Going off topic a little but I remember the first and last time I was blown away.
It was when I got my Japanese PlayStation on launch day with a copy of ridge racer. To own a piece of hardware that allowed you to have the current arcade quality at the time in your own living room was mindblowing, it helped that my TV was a Sony 32" wega :D

My friends would always want to pop over to play on the PlayStation as I was the only person in the area with one. None of them knew anything about importing so I opened their eyes to "tech from the future" lol

Remember coming home from School once and my brother had bought a Saturn and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.... Amazing scenes haha

I got my first playstation on the UK release date in 1995. Worked endless hour's as a pot washer at weekends and
Evenings around school to save for my pre ordered console

I look back in horror now but I convinced my mum to let me have day off school to go get my system and ridge racer at 8am from toys r us on release day as first 10 or 15 I think it was collections got street fighter the movie game as a freebie.

It's a TERRIBLE game and tbh it wasn't worth it lol. But I was first person in our school to have one and I caned ridge racer for days on end!

Much respect to you!
Ridge racer was a damn fine game shame about the street fighter lol

GameCube arrived yesterday (I get everything delivered to my parents as my house is annoying to find). Knew deep down I wouldn't manage to contain my excitement and would start playing it, but it's come from a mega dusty smoker home. Sticky buttons and a sticky console haha. It'll be getting stripped and cleaned.

Will see if it boots first and reads a disc.wont get round to that till later though. Heading to a carboot sale today yo see what I can find.

EDIT: Nothing at the car boot. Loads of ps1/2/3 stuff. Some 360 stuff. That was it sadly. Bought a wii nunchuck and a scart adapter.

Picked up this today for £150

Castlevania IV is the highlight I suppose. A couple of duplicates (Mario Kart and Starwing) to sell on and drop the total spend to around the £125 mark. Maybe one too many football games, but most of the other games are pretty decent.

Nice one barmy

Keep me posted if you sell mario kart as I still need a copy myself

Btw you tried light gun games with the B&O screen?

A great haul!

I'm pretty new to the whole retro scene, but there is something quite comforting knowing I don't need the internet, patches or need to install anything to hard drives. Literally plug and play.

Got the GC all cleaned and put back together, been playing Zelda all night. Great fun!

Fantastic! I had a bit of a light gun game bender a while back and ended up with gcon 1 and 2s along with 2 saturn ones and most of the available games lol.

Will drop you a line later ref mario kart so we aren't discussing sales outside of MM

Ta

The amount of people who cant see the point of retro is pretty interesting. You let them have a go and that normally changes lol
