Return to 'The Troubles'?

The DLA culture in this country is another thing to be massively ashamed of to be fair....

Is the shame that people are claiming the DLA or is the shame why that they need to claim it? For exsample knee capping, injured soldiers, police officer and civilians, you know the hidden victims of the troubles....

You read my post with your defensive blinkers on, old chap, and in doing so you created a perfect example of what I said. My post, as quoted, didn't hint at prejudice or favour towards any particular stance. I have equal disdain for spides, regardless of political or religious leanings.

Blaaaaaa :p thats why your always on NI threads topics denouncing the locals from the other side of the Irish sea........ Is that a holy death ray shining out your ass? ;)

I've never understood why people care so much about who a bit of land supposedly 'belongs' to anyway. Especially your IRA types who live in the Republic and miles away from NI anyway.

If Scotland suddenly declared that Newcastle was now part of Scotland, I honestly wouldn't give a crap.

Nobody's trying to justify anything, simply stating the facts. I've already mentioned there was some ********* from the strand involved in it. You're gonna get that regardless.

Your posts do seem to come across as quite apologetic/defensive towards the protesters, whether that's intentional or not. It perpetuates the finger pointing.

One would bet that should the group walking through have been entirely composed of quiet, obedient, peaceful protesters bereft of masks but draped in flags, they still would have been attacked by residents of the Short Strand. Likewise, the same would happen should peaceful Nationalist protesters take a detour across the Shankhill.

It's just the type of people that engage in this nonsense, on both sides. Neither need direct provocation to start their neanderthal behaviour. Far too many tracksuits for anything decent, there.

Don't look at it so much if Newcastle was suddenly part of Scotland, but more so how people were treated when it was happening, it's not just as simple as that example. You need to take history into account, peoples identities and where they have a sense of belonging. Of course there are also the ones who are fighting because their da had 1916 or 1690 tattooed on his arse and that's good enough for them.

It isn't so much either IRA types who live in the republic, but republican groups who live in the north that wish for Ireland to be reunited as a whole. Obliviously it's just not republican terrorist groups that think this but just pointing out that they aren't groups who live miles from NI and travel up to cause a bit of havoc once in a while.

Thankfully the majority of folks from both sides do get on and realise compromises need to be made for a peaceful future but it's the bigots that hold things back and won't accept anything other than what they want with no concern for who else shares the country.

The fact we have so many here claiming. There are jobs, just people dont want them. Why should anyone have to bring themselves to working in a mcdonalds or hotel just because they never got a single grade in school eh?

And in regards to estebanrey, I dont mind the flag being flown on certain days etc but I certainly do feel british, much more so than irish. I grew up with the pound coin, the monarchy and the bbc etc. Suppose it depends on your upbringing. I suppose its similar to "las malvinas" eh... why should we bother there? History and heritage I suppose and because a majority feel somewhat loyal to the crown.

Anywho none of this nonsense, shouldnt we return to the mud slinging? Not allowed to talk sense in this forum im told..!

Well according to the PSNI tonight on the news there was an agreed route to take after the protest, and a couple of hundred protesters basically ran the gauntlet and took a route taking them in front of the Short Strand to cause a confrontation.

Not all the protesters done that obviously, just the masked up muppet element intent on causing trouble. Be interesting to see if anything goes on tonight or if it cools off some.

And some innocent bystanders in the short strand just happened to be sitting about with bottles and bricks?

They ALL just want to riot. Recreational rioting. No side is innocent.....! Nolan show back this week will be messy.

This is the same as any other flash point at any other time of the year- Some folk in NI will travel by the bus load to go to places to be offended at others and surprise surprise, violence kicks off.

All should be locked up. Treat them the same way as the tottenham rioters in London last year- sunday courts and all to convict.

The cops are warning about knocks on the door coming soon, id be interested in seeing their arrest figures for this as the masks will virtually enusre a large chunk of them will get off scott free.

Don't panic if your scarf wasn't high enough, just tell them the reason you were in the Short Strand was because you were helping your uncle Sean build a garage. Total coincidence you tripped and the bricks went flying towards the protesters. :D

I doubt they would take the view that a nail laden baseball bat could be used in construction. :p

I had to laugh at the feeble attempt Scottish Unionists had at their own version of the protests. A grand total of 7 (yes, SEVEN) turned up to protest outside the deputy FM's offices. Complete with flegs and scarf covered faces, they picketed a closed office.

Scottish Unionists yet again succeed in merely making their cause appear stupid and menacing at the same time :)

I have never understood the Scottish fascination with Northern Ireland. On the many occasions I have visited Glasgow, I am always accosted in the bars by complete strangers wanting to know which Old Firm team I support and my opinions on the IRA/UVF. Why do they care about NI?

Because of the historical links to Ireland. Scotland gets it's name from the Scoti which was the name of Irish raiding clans who terrorised the mainland when the Romans where there. Then there was the plantation of Ulster by Scottish settlers, then many migrated back to Scotland. Glasgow particularly. Glasgow Celtic was formed by Irish catholic migrants. Glasgow Rangers became the protestant alternative. Hibernian was another catholic irish migrant team.

It's a mystery to me too. It's a South West thing mainly. A small amount of people (mainly the more deranged OF fans) see Glasgow as a microcosm of Northern Irish culture due to the amount of historic migration between Ulster and that part of Scotland.

Quite why they think they need to transpose the issues surrounding NI to our country is beyond me. It does nothing but hold Scotland back.

There's been mass migration between Scotland and Ireland for thousands of years. So hardly a microcosm.

Why the problems are transposed... as John Marston says, people don't forget.
