cliffs:
- rich russian dudes go on a cruise ship, which looks innocent to attract pirates
- they get guaranteed at least one pirate attack
- they then use their rented weapons to shoot pirates
- they get guarded by ex russian special ops

the source is sadly in german: http://www.wirtschaftsblatt.at/home...do?_vl_backlink=/home/index.do&_vl_pos=3.2.DT

so you'll have to plug it into babelfish or something...

Apparently a machine gun (ak-47) costs 9 dollars / day to rent, 100 bullets are 12 bucks.
A grenade launcher with three grenades will set you back 175 dolalrs / day. Using a mounted machine gun costs 475 dollars etc. The cruise costs 5790 dollars a day...

Blah blah pirates have feelings too blah and have kids blah trying to feed their family blah UN aren't helping so have to use crime. :o

pfft. Is what i say to that. :p

Anyway. If the U.S.A and UN help a country they get told they are meddling in other countries affairs and if they don't help they get had a go at for that to.

Can't Win.

A bit dodgy and not sure how true the story is, then again not going to lose too much sleep over it. Would be quite a silly idea though as there is a very good chance of an RPG heading towards these russian business men and the effect on a luxury yacht is going to be a bit more sever than with say an oil tanker.

Either way there were rumours of Serbs allowing German business men to pay a sum and go 'hunting' during the conflict in Bosnia - I really doubt there is that much of a market for this sort of stuff and it is mostly urban legends.

They've seen and misinterpreted a spoof site thats doing the rounds. Don't have a link off the top of my head and I can't be bothered to go looking for one, but basically rubbish.

i dunno. its the sort of thing id pay to do and then chicken out of if i was rich and bored. and im sure theres plenty of rich people who are more evil than me out there!

Rich people pay plenty of money to go on big game hunts in South Africa. I can certainly see a market for this activity no matter how morally repugnant it is.

This. It was floating around GD not too long ago!

I'm not saying there aren't people out there who wouldn't think twice about signing up to go hunting humans - but realistically given the extremely high chances of this going very very wrong for them I really doubt there would be too much of a market for this itself.

Would be like getting people to sign up for driving an armoured 4*4 through Helmand province & guaranteeing them at least one taliban ambush.

Anyway this is almost certainly a fake story - aside from being a bit unrealistic something like this would attract a handfull of people & most likely cost 10s of thousands per businessman to run (cost of hiring crew, security, fuel, chartering the vessel etc..) - given the likely size of the bill if this was real it would be slightly odd to then add on a charge a mere 100 dollars of whatever was mentioned in the article for the rifle.
