Richard Branson to donate £3bn to fight climate change

Does it matter whether it's for show or not though?

This is a good point - whether it's for show or not is irrelevant. It is still enough to make a difference, and will certainly bring a lot of attention to the problem.

It's more than likely a marketing thing, but definetly fair play to him for doing it, it's a good start.

Maybe other large companies will follow suit?

Either way it doesnt really matter. We can't stop global warming, it's been happening since the Ice Age! (How else do you think the ice age ended)

Doesn't look to me like he's donating a penny:

Make no mistake, he's doing this to make money.

The guy is a legend!

His company will hopefully come up with a new clean energy source, making him a heck of a lot of money.

Plus he gets the green hippies off his back. :D

true good gestures like this is basically advertising and thus increases sales and such and such, but if he really is investing 100% of all profit and this stunt increases that profit, wont it just add to the pot.

unless over these next 10 years we are gonna see virgin move into new markets using this increased revenue

Id rather have Virgin Fuels trying to find a renewable reliable efficient energy source for the future than Branson having £3Bn sitting in his business account. Good on him i say.

I personally dont think we can prevent it, i think we have to plan to adapt for when it gets serious - Which is going to be a pretty hard thing to do.

Of course its preventable. All the big poluters (sp?) need to do is stop CFC and Co2 emissions. Some companies have done it, some havn't. If they stop, the effects can be stopped and with time, reversed. Its almost a blessing in disguise that fossil fuels are running out. Of course, the ultimate result is the onset of another ice age. Although far fetched, and unlikly within the next 500 years orso, if this course of action prevails, it's what will happen.
