Rift s whos getting one?

one thing i'll give oculus credit to is they are software geniuses. im sure that a lot of the issues we have are hardware flaws they didn't catch and somehow via software they've fixed them.
even their solution to roomscale last gen is just genius provided a lot of other people would have dug their heels in and said we're not roomscaling.

ill update in the next few days and hope its fixed...

Having John Carmack work for oculus was a genius move.

Rift S firmware update v1.8.1 is live (don't know when it went live as haven't played in a couple of days) - cant see any real changes.

Can't get any display from the headset now - just a black screen.

Tried rebooting, update GFX drivers, update USB and Intel drivers (none needed) and disabled USB sleep - still no luck.

EDIT: Tried them all again and success! Just played for 45 minutes on Beat Saber before heading off to bed without an issue.

I find it a bit sad that after 2.5 years people still talk about Roco Recall, nothing amazing and new has come out?

I'm also concerned about sound, anyone using wireless bluetooth earbuds?

On the recent Oculus home beta updates they seem to have resolved all of my Rift S issues. The USB driver warning is gone, no more daily play area not found and batteries in the touch controllers don't seem to be draining as fast in sleep/idle.

I’m glad a lot of the niggles are/have been ironed out with the S, for my budget this definitely seems the headset for me,

I’m happy/keen to try any VR game, but wonder will I be able to play my steam games with this headset

I currently have
Project cars
Elite dangerous all the call of duty games except the latest one
Flight simulator X
Assetto corsa
Metro 2023
F1 2017
IL2 cliffs of Dover
Fallout 3
Farcry
Wolfenstein new order

Or/and are there any other FPS and flitsim VR games out there that the rift S has access to

I don't know why you think that's sad. People still talk about how amazing Half Life 2 is. Robo Recall is amazing, It's an era defining game. For many VR players, it's the first glimpse of what "Presence" means in a game. The intro is still my goto demo to show people just how good VR is and how different it is from normal games.

Why is sound a concern? There are so many easy fixes, mods and other solutions out there that sound quality will never be an issue.

Alien Isolation if you have with it with the Mother mod, definitely worth playing.
Fallout 4. (or did you mean fallout 4 instead of 3 in your list?)
Doom 3 BFG - There is a mod for this too, has to be the BFG edition. Is really good to be in the Doom world.

EDIT: read your post properly this time :p The only games that you can play in VR on your list are

Project Cars,
Elite Dangerous,
Assetto Corsa,
IL2 and Flight Simulator X should also work, but, I am not well up on flight sims.

Nobody talks about HL2 these days apart from HL3 announcement memes. Far better landmark games have come out since then. Robo Recall while amazing was more of a glorified tech demo that showed whats possible and I would have expected it to have been surpassed by newer VR experiences. So its still cockpit experiences that make VR worthwhile.

Apart from bluetooth earbuds I don't see any other elegant solutions, ghetto mods are a no go for me. That's another £50 on top just because Oculus had a brain fart and took away something that was so convenient and worked so well with CV1.

Ha ha yeah I do that a lot, thanks for the pointers, happy enough with that selection, so I can just go into the steam store and play these with the rift s ?

So there are no first person shooters out there in the vr world then ?

Try Pavlov VR.

Thanks , have heard this game being bantered about the VR threads, is this not a sniper game? Either way happy, just waiting for funds to build up for the purchase, are there any sales coming up that this headset might be reduced in? I. Not going to wait for ever, but if there are any in the next few months I may wait

Pavlov is the CS:GO of VR. I've grown more fond of it in recent weeks, even though I had a strong bias towards Onward originally! I especially like the zombie maps that you can download from the Steam Workshop:

I'm looking forward to the USB driver warning to be fixed - that annoys the hell out of me every time I open oculus SW.

Touchwood but I haven't had any play area issues after the last couple of updates when I was getting them multiple times a day. I was wondering if the touch controllers turn off quick enough as noticed them dying - perhaps i just need to wait for the update to fix it :)

The obvious flight sim is DCS.
You can download the base game for free, and that includes one of the best maps and a couple of aircraft to test the game and see if you want to progress from their.
I have a Xplane and IL2 and barely play them as I consider DCS to be so much better. I’m a Rift S user

Thanks guys , looking forward to trying these , to be honest like a lot of wannabe owners getting to try out these headsets isn’t possible
My only insight into VR is on a friends PSVR and that was some shark attack game where you get ,lowered into a cage, have to say thou that was pretty scary, despite the low res
