Risen, out 2 October!

So what would i do in this rpg, go around doing lots of quests for people, is it combat drivin or can avoid combat all together if i wanted to, is it a game for easy goers like myself for leveling (dungeon siege was great auto level up based on what u used).

Also with some games being a wizard (if u can do that in this game) is usually hard u gotta do too much. I just want to be able to blast me cool fireballs, heal myself and maybe summon a cool big monster to aid me or somit to ride on like a horse.

It arrived in the post this morning, played about 4 hrs so far. Very Gothic 2 feel to it with the Gothic 3 type of openworld (but more compact). Loads of quests, and combat seems more refined than in G3, although similiar. Exploring the island is good fun. The game is split into chapters but not in a linear way like The Witcher. You can go anywhere you like most of the time.

Graphics are decent enough, voice acting is good (a few Brit TV show peeps I recognise). A bit of humour in there too :D Its an action rpg basically, with decent questing and exploring. Not a hack'n'slash. For those that have never played a Gothic game its more in common with Oblivion/Fallout 3 without the riduculous level scaling and a lot more choices & consequences. You can't pick a class from the start, have to get in with the appropriate faction to train what you want. You will really suck at first (playing on medium-hard) as the worlds creatures have a static level. But that is great as you feel a sense of accompishment when you get more badass and can go back and kill foes that owned you earlier.

I'm having blast, PB have redeemed themeselves after the issues in Gothic 3. Vey polished and stable game.

I might grab this one, looks promising.

I'm slightly confused as to the setting of the game, is it a medievil sort of deal or cyberpunky thingy?.

The demo is quite good. The character animation could be better and also the character textures, but I got a good atmosphere. Combat system is real-time aswell. I can't say about story line just yet.

And you're stranded on an island to start with Draeger but I think it will be a medievil setting.

Text is damn hard to read sometimes the i's especially. Some of the letters are too faded or somit. Hope theres a fix for this. (demo btw)

Edit

The pop up in the game is dreadful. The gfx arnt that good to warrent below 30fps in non action just walkin to the house in the demo at the start.

Btw this is with 8x aa forced (have to rename exe to Vanguard and force through nvidia panel it said on the official forums to get aa working. So far not impressed. Bad performance, bad pop up, not the best gfx, awkard character animations, feel like floating when walking lol, and finally bad interface due to unreadable text at times.

Lol at the camera shake bug when ur double tap left a lot and try changing ur view with mouse at the same time a lot.

Haha im standing on the campfire and not taking any damage. :p

Cant jump any direction but forward. lol. so lame.

Glad i just got the demo this thing is terrible.

Same here it's bad frame rate sucks.

Delete time :D

Yep. I mean i took aa off and got 45-50fps but soon as you move its down to 25fps. I mean wtf. Crysis is better than this haha.

Well a friend of mine from a high street computer game company brought me my copy of the game around last night.

The shake screen isn't a bug, its a giant volcano nearby.

60 fps and i have forced improved graphics through the Nvidia control panel.

The story is pretty good, the atmosphere is really good.

Nights are dark, dungeons are dark and you need to use torches.

Mobs are a bit bland, gnome, wolf, bird, hedgehog, skeletons, boars, ogres, war cricket and so on. You can wonder into certain camps and until you fight them, you have no idea if there too high level for you, which is cool.

Exploration is really cool, you can find random ruins and keeps that are really quite spooky, but on "normal", 2+ mobs and you have to run away.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE QUICK SAVE AND QUICK LOAD KEYBINDED!!!!!!

Also be very very very careful how you do some quests otherwise the quests just lock and you cant complete them.

Terrain graphics are pretty nice, they give a nice realistic feel. Character graphics are completely shocking. Wolfs look terrible.

The crafting system is simple but also mildly in depth. To make a sword you need a sword cast, then you need to heat the cast in the forge till it glows, then hit it on the anvil to shape it, then grind it on the whetstone. So its pretty nice.

The combat system is nice, but very unforgiving, the mobs have a clear advantage, and it reminds me a little of the famous gothic 3 video of the stunlock boar. Example is this stingrat, you can swipe him 3 times and during them swipes he can attack you no problem, but when you take 3 attacks, you cant do **** apart from eat it.

Gold is very hard to come by if you choose the Don's camp, which i did, so my advice is find trainers and learn gutting ASAP and spend wisely.

Overall its a very nice game, but its dragged down heavily by stupid game designs and poor character graphics. Its worth £10 and not £25, this is why people pirate games...........

EDIT: Voice acting is pretty half decent, there is Andy from eastenders doing some voices and there seems to be that young nuclear physicist who was looking for the higs boson doing voices too, golem actor is there also. So the voice acting is pretty good.

The stuttering framerate you guys are talking about is a bug and is fixed by reverting back to 178.24 on nvidia cards, framerate remains constant after.

Don't need to revert back at all, I'm on 190.62 and the game runs as smooth as butter.

just bought this off steam and it says that its not yet released... christs sakes i thought it was out today, the store ad said play today.

ffs steam don't lie to me. oh well i shall try tommorow i guess. loved gothic and love rpg's so i should like this, seems like the fixed most of the problems with gothic 3.

I am in love with this game right now!

Its not that it does something super extraordinary or anything but it is just coming together so nicely.

To me what stands out right now is

1. Sense of exploration - you are constantly being rewarded for exploring your surroundings, looting stuff.
2. A sense of danger. I must have died a dozen times wandering in over my head, strugling but eventually succeeding.
3. Compulsively going forward to become stronger so I can return to areas I was previously too weak for.

This game looks interesting but I'm not sure if it's the kind of RPG I'd like or not. I'll have a look at the demo soon but before that, can someone who has it tell me a bit about it -

What kind of character classes and development does this game use? Fighter/mage/thief/etc, or more simplified one-class-does-all but train skills as you see fit?
What character-type choices do you make before you start the game (if any)?
Which other RPGs would you compare it to?
