Played a few hours now and finding it really good fun, if rather brutal - though that probably stems from my holding off training melee to become a mage! The quests around harbour town were rather compelling though, lost a few hours just doing those.
What kind of character classes and development does this game use?
Fighter/mage/thief/etc, or more simplified one-class-does-all but train skills as you see fit?
To answer both of these you earn 'learning points' each time you level which can be spent at trainers you find around the world on skills OR stats. Stats are generally 1 point/lvl (+ some gold) and enchance your melee/ranged/magic abilities.
Combat and Secondary skills are usually 10 pts/lvl + gold and improve your ability through new moves, spells and styles.
You can also enhance stats through various foods/books around the world too.
Im 6 hours in and currently undergoing training to become a mage. The choices you make (Though relatively obviously to ensure you dont blindly follow a path you dont want) determine the archtype from which you can ultimately actually receive training in.
What character-type choices do you make before you start the game (if any)?
None, you wash up in a shipwreck with absolutely nothing.
Which other RPGs would you compare it to?
Reminds me a fair bit of 'the Witcher' although has the old oblivion feeling of being able to explore an open world. Not as reinfed as either of these titles but definately a fun outing so far.
This game looks interesting but I'm not sure if it's the kind of RPG I'd like or not. I'll have a look at the demo soon but before that, can someone who has it tell me a bit about it -
