Just back from visiting a friend in Surrey. We went out on his normal 30 mile route - I swear to God I've not seen hills that steep ever (20%+). I managed to get up them all in 39x25, but I wouldn't have troubled Contador! I am exhausted - falling asleep typing this! It was a great challenge, but illustrated that I need to lose more weight (2.5 stones down since Nov 10) and hit those hills more often to really develop my fitness.

My new Supersix was fantastic, but I experienced considerable lower back pain when descending or pushing on the flat. Had a fit with the Bike Whisperer yesterday, so not sure if it's a fit issue or a flexibility issue. He diagnosed a significant lack of flexibility in my right leg.

He had his Garmin so promises to upload and send me the link - will post when he does.

Well done SDK - very good effort fella! :)

102 miles done.

The first 32 miles I was flying, averaged 19.2mph. After that I decided to reign in the pace so I could finish the distance :)
Ride time : 5hrs 53mins - Including one splash and dash for water at the final feed station.

Ride details here : http://connect.garmin.com/activity/79724600

This was a 100% solo effort - all of the groups were too slow :(

Nice work!

Managed 140 miles on the day, ran out of daylight after the friend I was with had several flats and our lunch hosts made a great spread for us. Which meant we spent longer than I'd originally planned, well worth it though.

I bet he gave you Leith Hill and Box Hill. If I was evil and was taking someone out in Surrey for the first time then that's where I would take them....

Well this makes me feel stupid. I've just went to insure my bike seeing as this one is actually worth nicking, and found out I need the frame number....

The problem is, I can't find it. The only number I can see printed into metal is on the left pedal :s
The bike is a carrera subway if anyone is interested

Lol, people will get the wrong idea :D
I headed out to Biggin Hill again yesterday, and I'm still amazed at how quickly you climbed those hills on your fixie. You should give yourself more credit!

The Garmin Edge 605 that I ordered arrived today, hopefully I'll be able to figure out how to use it in time for the weekend. Looking forward to being able to work out a route on the computer, then follow it on the bike. Thinking about having a go at my first century this weekend, seeing as the weather is forecast to be favourable and I've got nothing better to do :)

Provided you are in the right gear riding fixed gives you an advantage on hills (on the way up anyway) since the wheel tuning the pedals flattens out any dead spots on your stroke and makes it easier to maintain a consistent cadence and effort.

Course, if the hill is too steep for your gear then you are buggered.

Leith Hill was one of the hills, but there were two others as well I can't remember the name of :(

Can anyone give assistance with setting up my Edge 500? I have the wheel magnet and pedal magnet set in the positions indicated in the guide and I can't get it to display cadence or speed.

Where on the wheel does the magnet need to be as it's really unbalancing it? On the opposite side to the valve? :(

The magnet on the wheel and crank arm needs pass within about 1cm gap to the cadence sensor.
Also you probably need to do a scan for them on the 500 device

Page 26 of the manual

Settings -> Bike Settings -> [Bike] -> ANT+ Spd/Cad
Select -> Yes -> Rescan

Read the manual?! I'm a man for goodness sake! ;)

Thanks, I'll try that in a second. Do I need to use the wheel magnet? It can calculate my speed from GPS can't it?

Also, how do I upload my rides to the net? I have a myGarmin account already for our car satnav - have registered the Edge there tonight.

*Edit*

Aah - it was set to 'No sensors present'. Works a treat now ;)

Put the magnet opposite the valve, you'll get better results with it installed.

Quite a flat route then :p
Not as much as I'd like, I normally try to plan rides close to 1000ft for every 10 miles. What made the ride far harder was the 20mph winds from the SW/W.
