:( Sorry to hear that mate. Was there any fault admitted by the driver? Were they injured too?

Took a while to get my confidence back after my little crash. I was fortunate to get off relatively injury free in comparison.

Hope it doesn't impact your riding too much!

The driver was fine but her car was wrecked. She must have hit the ditch hard.

The police have called me back and advised me to write a letter to her Insurance company out lining the damages.

I had to photograph all of the damages (to myself, bike and clothes/equipment) with a date stamp and send them on to the insurance/solicitor along with a quote for repairs/replacements from LBS.

Obviously the quote included LBS prices + careless driver tax. My replacements were bought online so the incident did allow me some tasty upgrades. :)

Hope everything gets sorted.

Whilst out riding today I was hit by a car which was travelling pretty fast :(
I was making a right turn on a wide country lane and the car hit me trying to overtake me. It was probably doing about 50mph because it carried on and crashed into a ditch & hedge.

Injuries sustained - A big deep gash in my leg which is now stitched up, heavy grazes on my back & arms and a smashed up iPhone. Not too sure about damage to my bike because I had to leave it at nearby house before going in the ambulance.
Police took statements and once the shock clams down I will think about claims etc.

Stay safe peeps :)

I don't need to tell you that this could have ended very differently. I am pleased that it didn't for you and that you're OK.

Don't bother dealing with her insurance company yourself, use a specialist firm - I can recommend one if you wish.

I'm not intending to claim for any upgrades.
I'll get Specialized to check the bike for any damage and the only other damaged item is my smashed iPhone 4.

In other news - Contador has been using Apex gearing for the mountain stages of the Giro. Good to see the Pro's using lower end stuff :)

Jaysus SDK^, sorry to hear about your off. Could have been much much worse so glad to hear you're basically ok.

Stupid, stupid driver. The sad thing? From my day-to-day observations that might have been a male driver taking a bit too much of a risk and being a bit too aggressive. Sadly, from what I've seen out there, because it was a woman she probably completely misjudged the situation and did it out of sheer cluelessness of the consequences. That alone makes it all the more frightening.

I get both sexes driving too close when overtaking. Male drivers that get too close are usually impatient and know what they can get away with. Female drivers, unfortunately, do it because they have no idea of the size of their car or the space they're trying to fit through. They are the ones that scare me.

That's my rant over. Glad you're ok mate.

My turn.

Apparently this morning was my morning to get whacked.

Car avoided pedestrian, my choices were hit the car or get squashed by the truck next to me.

End result, glanced off the rear quarter of the car. One very bashed up right forefinger, which was already badly damaged from my Whistler crash last year. Hand was covered in blood by the time I got to work.

Hi guys,

I'm currently trying to shed the lbs/kgs.

Once I get in shape I'd really like to take up proper road cycling. I have a hybrid Kelly's bike at the moment, but will look into getting a "real" bike maybe at the end of the summer.

My question: is there a max weight a road bike can support? At 100kgs I fear I'll break a carbonfibre bike!

Anyone here ever done the Friday Night Ride to the Coast?

http://fnrttc.blogspot.com/

Looks quite interesting, and I'm tempted to sign up for one of them if I can get a Saturday off work.

Also you weight weenies...I'm the exact opposite. I only weigh 70kg or so but I'm piling everything I can on my bike...it is a tourer after all!

I've just entered for the 50 mile Worcestershire BHF charity ride on 26th June 2011.
I will also be riding to & from the event so hoping to complete my first 100 miles in a day ride.

This is my first charity ride, & hoping it's not my last :D

.

I've not done it, but there are quite a few in the Bike Radar commuting chat section who do them all the time. Supposed to be very good events.
