Need to get some non-slicks for a 700km tour down France. Any recommendations? And also what size should I go for?
Depends on what your rims can accommodate, and what you're going to be riding on. If it's all about comfort and you're sticking to the road and very easy tracks, something like the Schwalbe Marathon Supreme would probably work quite well. I have them in 700x32c on my main bike and find them to be rather nice. If you need more puncture resistance or are going off road, there are others in the Marathon range that would be more suitable. Continental Gatorskins come in 700x23c if you want something a bit faster.

I'd go with Durano Plus; Essentially a slick marathon plus. No need to treads on a road bike.

They come in a 25mm option that will provide a little more comfort over long distances.

I always end up gettimg my tyres from High on Bike on eBay. I never plan to, it just always ends up that way.

Have just ordered some new Durano S from them (lighter, but less puncture resistant than the plus')

I knocked this up at lunchtime:

Should help steady the bike when I'm working on it. Otherwise it wobbles about all over the place and sits on the brake cables, which partially applies the brake.

You don't do gear adjustments when it's upside down do you?

Nope, it's a fixie ;)

I have adjusted the derailleurs on the other one upside down though. Should I not?

Guys I want to buy a second hand road bike. What's the best place in general to look for second hand bikes please? I'm looking to spend ~£500 but could go higher. I'm basically a bit bored of my hybrid as my commute is entirely tarmac, so I only ever need my hybrid on trails etc and I want to go faster / further. What brands / models should I be looking at? Do any stores do good deals on prior year models?

Also, what frame size should I be looking at? I'm 5'11'' and 78Kg.

Thanks!

I'm very tempted by the Ribble Gran Fondo too, but will probably be after the summer before I consider buying. It'd be my first road bike though, so I was wondering if the fitting would be ok provided I took care to do all my measurements correctly first? I hate buying things in cycling shops over here because they're just such a rip-off compared to the UK.

It's a minefield of customisation options though!!

not sure I like the carbon ones, they seem to be mostly s/m/l etc rather than measurements
what size did you go for and whats your measurements?
