Nope, I haven't had a single puncture (other than a double puncture when I cycled over something large and both tyres exploded) in two years of using them now.

Yeah I had punctures in the Krylions, but then I commute in London in the winter which is the natural home of the puncture fairy, and I do 7,000 miles a year. The Krylions punctured a little more often than my Durano S' but I probably had more punctures in a week with Conti GP4000S' than I did in six months on the Krylions.

Can pick up the Carrera TDF "Limited Edition" Road Bike from Halfords for around £245 at the minute with some discount codes (down from £450 and cheaper than the bike below it in the range currently).

I reckon thats a pretty good deal for the money, but can anyone think of anything better for the cash? Just looking for something to help fitness levels with some rides through the summer.

That's the one I've started a thread aboout. What code are you using for that price? I found a £20 off voucher plus cashback.

Can't recommend Pro Race 3s enough either.
Same here. I've just gone for another set of Pro 3's. Thought I'd stick with what I know. Bucket loads of grip and quite a soft ride for a 23 pumped up to 100psi.

Have either of you been visited much by the puncture fairy in them?
They were excellent right up until some local road resurfacing, which left me riding in sharp crap for 6 weeks the first time and around 3 weeks the second time. I'm guessing they aren't designed for that sort of punishment and they'd have loads of life left in them if it wasn't for that. Thanks Croydon council

Thanks for taking the time to type all that out. I understand the difference in ride between compliant frames and race frames - compliance is only part of the reason for the purchase. I'd like a slightly less aggressive position than my Super Six for longer rides. A taller HT and shorter TT are key. It doesn't have to be silly either - it's amazing what difference a centimetre can make! ;)

I hadn't considered the Madone - I'll have a look at the geo and some reviews.

If it's the geo you are looking at then also consider:

Scott CR1
Colnago CLX 2.0
Trek Madone

With my long legs and short body I don't really have much choice other than to go for a relaxed geometry. The Roubaix is the most relaxed and it is very relaxed so you might want to try the others. Must admit that if I didn't get the Scott I would have been looking the Colnago although I am also looking for a Secteur frame (exact geo as the Roubaix) for the autumn.

Drop me a mail in trust, there's 10% off and £25 off over £200 which can be stacked. Dont forget 4% quidco for reserve and collect, followed by 7.8% in store cashback if you register your credit card. Should actually come in ~£216 if it all comes off.

Guyz, can I fit 25mm slick road tyres to my Carrera Subway's 26mm wheels? What tubes do I need? I need to get rid of the knobbly tyres as I am doing 'all' my miles on tarmac.

Nope, it's a fixie ;)

I have adjusted the derailleurs on the other one upside down though. Should I not?

I used to but I was told not to, and it does have an effect on gear adjustment, sometimes when gears seem to shift correctly with the bike upside down, they won't shift when it's the correct way, probably due to the rear mech pushing down on itself or something.

I have Scwalbe Kojaks on my Carrera Subway; as the name suggests, they are completely slick. They are a lot faster than the Kenda tyres that came with the bike, and provide much better grip. They are also pretty cheap, which is always a bonus.

I'll bear it in mind. Pretty sure the derailleur is spring loaded though. Got to take it all off for the rebuild anyway, so if I can't get the gears to work then I'll know why :D

Two more Freecycle bikes joining the fleet this weekend. Not seen them yet so who knows what they are :D

Thanks...they don't seem to come in 26 x 1.5. What did you go for? 26 x 1.35? Did they fit ok on your rims?

Halfords have the Schwalbe City Jet at £12 so I might just go for those, as I am impatient and want to ride on better tyres on Monday morning.

Thinking about it I'm not sure entirely slick is a great idea, as I cycle in the wet too.

You are correct, I have them in 26 x 1.35 and they fit the rims just fine. They grip very well in the wet, in my experience. I got them for £10 each from Planet-X, though unfortunately they don't seem to have any left. The City Jet are pretty nearly slick, and would be an improvement over the standard semi-knobbly ones.
