Anyone know anything about womens road bikes? my orders are "get me one for about £300 and it had to be pretty" lol i thought that was bit cheap but Halfords have a Carrera for £329 im not sure it will get better than that?

The Carrera Zelos is rubbish. 14 speed gearing, steel fork. Weighs nearly 12Kg.

As said, see if you can get the red Triban 3, or go second hand.

well my padded undershorts turned up, and they fit :D

guess il find out how they handle come tomorrow morning for a repeat of saturdays 32km trundle.

I've just ordered a DHB M1.0 (via Wiggle) as I use SPD for commuting and long distance weekend. Will feedback how it is when compared to my £20 Aldi shoes, which gave up on me yesterday - only lasted 450miles.

I'm surprised your Aldi shoes fell apart. Which bit broke? It sounded like the bolt came out of the cleat plate, but the cleat plate is a Shimano part, unless the Aldi shoes had one built in? Could it have been cross threaded?

I personally use a Shimano A530 pedals (has flats on one side and the clip in on the other), good for commuting and popping to the shops. The cleat I use is the SH51, but there's SH55(?) that allows you to unclip at all sorts of direction, more useful if you're worried not being able to unclip.

How do you find the A530s for flat use? I'm thinking of putting some on my bike for when the wife wants to start using it next year when I get my new bike.

Mind you, I've heard it unclips too easily when one is stress peddaling up a hill, so if that's not an issue, it's worth considering.

As for the multi-release cleats, they do indeed get mixed reviews on the basis that you can find yourself unclipping when you don't want to, just by virtue of pulling a bit hard on the upstroke or whatever. To be honest, the 51s are fine for releasing in a hurry. If you've got the presence of mind to think "I'd better clip out about now" before something bad happens, then a swift yank will do the job, and if you don't manage to think fast enough then multi release cleats aren't going to save you.

Ooo there's a new segment on strava, right near me

funny thing is, its flat really (only a very slight slope) strava thinks its a cat 4 !

Looks like an error. Report it.

There was a segment near me that Strava said was a cat 4 because the elevation data was rubbish. They've now fixed it, so it's only a 28 foot difference, but it still shows up as my biggest climb on my profile - biggest climb: 28ft. Cheers.

I am surprised too as my co-worker's lasted him ages (2000+ miles and still going). The pair he got was a brown one whilst the ones I got were the White/Red trainer type ones. He's got one of the same as well and that had an issue with the bolt falling out.

So it's possible that it might be a manufacturing fault or poorer quality from this years line. The cleat itself is fine - except I lost it on my way home, the 2nd bolt dropped off and thus the plate. It's possible the thread crossed but for over 400miles, it was fine. This week I started harder climbs and spins, so a lot more upwards action, so might have been close to breaking and that finished it.

Edit: Here is the damage
Right shoe with cleat and bolts.

Left shoe with worn out threads and roughen area due to the cleat rotating around 1 bolt

It's fine for my needs, I got the black ones to match my bike, the flat is typical metal flats, nothing to write home about. Does get a little slippy when wet.

It almost always face clip side up. A quick flick works if I ever miss the clips.

Totally agree.

That looks like a brilliant event!
Shame it's so far away - I am tempted to do it then drive back to my parents for a couple of days before heading home up North...

Is there other events like so up North?

I'm still considering another geared bike even though I don't need it. I've decided against the R2W scheme as Evans only stock carp and I don't wish to be at my employer for another 12 months.

What do people reckon to the Ribble 7005 Audax? It's quite utilitarian but seems like great value for a winter trainer/commuter.

Alternatively I really like the look of this Cinelli in blue which is on sale:

I want something with Campag Veloce ideally.

i got the basso veloce. cinelli looks very good though

i also have a ribble winter. its good as a winter hack

Yeah I'm trying to choose between the Basso Laguna Veloce, the Cinelli Saetta and the Ribble. Ribble is the cheapest and the most practical but a bit boring.

Of course, the sensible thing to do is be happy with what I've got!

The Rose would still be my "best" bike. I just want something geared I don't mind commuting on or riding during the winter/bad weather hence originally looking at the Ribble 7005. However, those bargain deals on the Basso and Cinelli are hard to resist! Pics would be good cheers.

I'd then sell the Charge and use the Pearson single-speed for every day duty.

I planned to do some laps of RP on the way home so took the Rose to work but it is just way too hot so I went straight home. A hot cyclist chick complimented my bike... I feel validated and aroused.:D
