Have you tried stripping and greasing everything else? Like the stem (faceplate and steerer side), headset, seatpost, etc?

I had an annoying click from my bike that i was convinced was the bottom bracket. It was only when i was pushing relatively hard, once per crank revolution. It happened occasionally when i was standing up out of the saddle as well but i eventually narrowed it down to the seatpost. The slight twist of the frame when i push on the pedals must have been enough to cause it even if i wasnt sitting down.
Carbon assembly paste all over the seatpost sorted it completely.

Did the stem and seat post this morning.

Did a quick 20km on the rollers after work, 15 minutes of creaking then it stopped, seemed only to be on the right leg revolution pushing downwards.

I was thinking BB or perhaps pedals... Took the pedals off but you need a Shimano specific tool to strip them down further. Just regreased the threads and reinstalled them onto the cranks.

Planning to ride to work on it tomorrow and maybe go down the bike shop in the AM. Thats if it does it on the road and have a yarn to them about it. If they have any suggestions and can have at look tomorrow/friday otherwise ill go for a ride at lunch or after work, need to get a few km's in the legs while having Friday off.

Also need it sorting as someone at work was interested in a second hand bike for the kind of money I'd get for this! Seems like a justifiable excuse to the mrs to upgrade...

Have you tried the saddle rails?

I had a saddle that needed an occasional spray of GT85 where the saddle rails joined the saddle.

Took me ******* weeks to figure out that ************.

I am off at 726am - gulp. Aiming to knock off the first 40 miles in as close to two hours as possible, ideally if I can find a couple of other riders to share some work with. Look out for me on my white Wilier!

I'll be in the black helmet, back glasses, black jersey, black shorts on the black Scott with the black saddle, black tape, black cables, black rims, black spokes, black hubs and black tyres.

Some of those bits have bits of white, but generally Johnny Cash has nothing on me.

There are going to be a lot of people in the first 40 miles attempting to tank it but who have little experience of group riding. I'd steer clear if I were you. There are going to be some crashes on Sunday.

My start time is 7.46am.

I'd like to try and clear the first part of the route quite quickly, due to the fact I'm starting later and there are going to be cut-offs coming in later on. At the sametime though, don't want to end up using energy too quickly by going off too fast. While there are likely to be groups that can help pull you round, there is also the danger that going too quickly to stay with fast ones means you are expending too much.

I think the plan I've kind of come up with thus far is to carry enough of my own food and drink to me to the second hub at Newlands Corner, rather than stopping at Hampton Court, which isn't really that far in. Newlands is also a good spot because its the first climb, you can take a quick break, fuel up and get ready to tackle Leith Hill.

You are right though, I'm sure there are bound to be some accidents. Its really difficult to picture how the whole day is going to play out, as there are going to be so many people riding. I would think it won't really be until the hills start that it really starts stringing people out a little.

Still not quite made my mind up what I'm wearing yet.
Most likely some Pearl Izumi kit which is black but has blue and fluorescent yellow accents, I'll be riding a red and white Trek.

Always been good with me.

Great shop for all the little things that you can't get elsewhere. Their own brand stuff like frames and saddles are a bargain too.

ah cool, my brother ordered from them and he was saying how the website is really old school, which it is, then he got confirmation email with typos/spelling mistakes everywhere. - or at least that's what he said :)

well my butt seems to handle 20miles fine now where as it used to ache after around 5 miles :o

I've never been very supple I guess it's going to take me a long time before my ligaments and tendons get used to the extra strain :(
It's the leg I would use to kick so maybe I'm over compensating for my weak leg without realising

tbh i do strength training and squat and so on and cycle ~20ish/miles every working day.. and i still get pain some times when i push hard for longer periods of time :) and bum well.. padding is needed especially on a proper road saddle - i've no idea what your mtb has tho.

Spa Cycles have always been good for me.

Just ordered myself a new turbo for winter (depressing thought) - a Kurt Kinetic Road Machine which gets excellent reviews and is one of the recommended turbos for TrainerRoad. A bargain £239.99 from Planet X. Will stick my Tacx Satori on eBay.

Looks like my fall yesterday shredded my left handle bar tape.

What's a good one to look for? I'm looking at either black or red tape, padded preferrable as I don't wear gloves.

I have the exact same wheels/tyres as a cyclocross bike would have?
do cylcocross have wider rim width than road?

Yep, cyclocrossers mostly use road rims.
There are some cx specific rims which are a bit stronger and also some with no braking surfaces for use with disc brakes, but they are generally the same width as road rims.

Think I'm going to get that Fizik bar tape when I next redo my wrapping. Probably going to wait until next year though, as the Easton tape I've got at the moment has some life left in it and no point changing to brand new white bar tape as we head towards autumn and winter!

probably the same saddle style as you :P
it's not a mb ffs it has 700c wheels

sorry hybrid..
