Just had a power cut whilst on the rollers; zen-like concentration tonight so I didn't fall off! My flat is now illuminated with many many bike lights.

What about s/s Gabba and nanoflex/no-rain arm warmers for a bit cheaper?

I just bought the non-nano arm warmers :( I like the idea that it's all integrated too, to be honest I think i'm more leaning towards l/s as I find it has to get pretty warm until sleeves become an issue, plus it's not like I'm ever going to worry about tan lines :D

Just mapped out this route in Tenerife:

135km, 5479m ascent

went out in heavy rain in the jacket tonight

really good except... taped seams? pffffft

i had a wet line the whole way up the zip line

Less than two weeks until I'm back in the UK for two weeks. Need some 30-75km routes around Wigan/Bolton way that won't have heaps of traffic.

I'd like to ride up to the forest/trough of Bowland too perhaps. Quiet lanes but quite tight and drivers go quick on them.

Will try to ride three times a week to keep fitness up!

I imagine the temperature and wet might be a shock to the system... Might have to buy a jacket!

Check my Strava. That's my neck of the woods and there's plenty of good places to ride. Round Rivington and the reservoirs is good. Up to Bury and Ramsbottom for some fairly long climbs is a good bet. Could definitely come up with something for you.

Whereabouts are you going to be staying? If I know where you're starting I can point you in the right direction, maybe plot you something good.

Near the Cherry Gardens/ hospital in Wigan.

Ill probably go up to Standish, then up the hill at red rock and over the canal to Haigh Hall, through Blackrod and up to Rivington.

Today was the day I built up my "new" bike - transferring a few parts across from my starter Viking San Remo frame to a new steel Ribble frame. I've kept only the 2300 shifters and front derailleur, and the Sora rear derailleur. I know 2300 isn't the be all and end all, but it functions well enough and this is a build on a budget.

Gone are the annoying cheap brakes with no quick release, and here to stay are better wheels, R451 brakes, pedals, bars, saddle, better BB, etc etc.

It was my first foray into anything more complicated than putting a new saddle on, so took most of the afternoon, but nothing creaks, clonks, grinds or falls off - so I'm happy.

Looks much nicer than the old Viking too :D
Looking lovely timbob, you've done a great job as well.

Thanks for all the comments chaps, it was indeed a good feeling to complete the build myself. LBS only came into the equation earlier in the week by banging my crown race on - which wasn't happening on my own!!

Friday is "first big ride" day, looking forward to it immensely :)

I have that shiny new 6800 groupset and all the parts. Could build that up for under 1.5K or around 1K after selling the Ti frameset . Whilst having two R5's is a bit OTT it does solve the problem of 'everything else feels like a POS' :P
