hey guys just seen this thread, not been in here much lately.
however go to say loving cycling again !
I'm 31 years old now and until 3 months ago i had not turned a pedal in probably 14 years since before going to uni. when i started i was 104kgs i'm now just under 90kgs
I was also ignorant and now I'm a smidgeon enlightened.
the reason is i rid an old giant speedster with lower frame index gears and tri bars (approx13kgs) , and come what may when speaking to more experienced and modern cyclists the question of weight came up, now i am off the lose a kilo myself is the same as losing a kilo from the bike. how wrong I was. Even the 5 year old carrera virtuoso i used occasionally i thought was a top bike (12kg)
Then I bought this
now be warned this is not a great or lightweight bike, but is simply better in everyway than anything I have previously ridden.

since that moment and that first ride my cycling has come on leaps and bounds, where my record was 48 minutes over a 15 mile circuit it is now down at 43.30
but i don't have the same bike I have got the upgrade bug, I have changed the skewer approx 240 gm for some halo ones 60gms, the rear12-25 cassette for a dura ace 11-23 and gone from 500gm richey mtb pedals to buying some wellgo WG-8 magnesium ones
I have also bought all the gear, shoes, shorts, full length compression pants, a livestrong top a under armour compression top, and am slowly increasing the distance i ride.
currently 15 mile = 43:30 and the 18 mile route i do which includes a loop and second ascent of a steep climb at 60mins21
I have done longer rides 40 miles over bollihope to stanhope, weardale to teesdale but time and weather are not allowing for longer at present.
looking forward to spring and whats left of this year.

PS
i also inherited a scott Fx2 Zero MTB which i have replaced the whole groupset (nearly) and wheels to go offroad, my first sortee was on saturday over winlatter in the lakes, boy was that an experience ! I've still got the bumps and bruises to show for it !
