I love s/s but still don't see any worthwhile benefits to riding fixed on the street.

Maybe once I've visited Herne Hill my opinion will change.

I just really enjoy riding fixed when I'm commuting and pottering around town, makes going on long geared rides more fun, dont need to worry as much about someone bashing my derailleurs and brakes while its locked up

only thing i need to check after unlocking is the front brake

Dno, its just enjoyable!

I dunno, I like to go as fast as possible and riding fixed won't facilitate that and could present problems like pedal strike and not being able to coast down fast declines.

I just don't see any advantages over single-speed. Also, not trying to be big headed, but I don't encounter any fast street fixie riders. Maybe they are under-geared so they can get up hills or are worried about their knees or not being able to react/stop quickly if hammering it? Or maybe they are just hipsters who'd rather look cool with deep rims and tri-spokes than be able to ride fast!

There was one fast Asian guy who rode a pink fixie with a speaker blasting out his music.

Getting up hills is all about the legs. Getting down is about how tight you can clench without biting a hole in your saddle.

I am REALLY pleased with my ride today
I did the longest of this year, 35 miles

All my rides except 1 were all PB's !!

Good effort!

How are you finding the bike fit?

For me hills are about my massive lack of cardio fitness. My legs normally hold out a little longer.

My lungs usually give up first, leaving me feeling faint. I have asthma and I can't run at all, though cycling is manageable for some reason. If I push too hard up a hill I feel like I'm going to pass out.

Nonetheless, I might do some hill repeats tomorrow night and see how I get on, assuming the mrs isn't going out.

Got out earlier today so much cooler than earlier in the week.

Rode the same route just over 70km. I took a small banana and shoved that down after an hour on the road. Seemed to work well, aimed to ride a consistent 225-240w, felt good and didn't start to fade after 90 mins.

I'd have ridden a bit further maybe 100km but would have needed more food/water which I didn't have.

I was handed a leaflet (thankfully not a fine) this morning by a cop for being one wheel length out of the ASL. Another cyclist asked the policeman why he didn't give one to the Addison Lee cab behind us that was partially in the ASL. The copper didn't reply and just stood there.

Brool story co.

Not at all a surprising story sadly :/

Has anyone ever flown a bike to France with them? We're considering reversing our London > Paris trip and if we do that we may fly out to Paris then cycle back (if it is at all doable).

I had no issues flying to cyprus and back a few weeks back, relatively painless process.

I just looked at prices and it looks quite doable..hmm..

I'd buy one of the (expensive) hard cases before I entertained the idea..

I don't think that would be feasible for us. We would be riding to the airport and then riding from Paris back to London. As such we'd need to be able to assemble a case and throw it away once we set off from Paris :s
