Only problem with the Soho is that it uses a rear coaster brake and they are supposed to be pretty poor. Was chatting to a guy on one in Richmond Park though (with the belt drive) and he loved it.

It's the belt drive one I'd go for. Nearly got one last year but ended up with the mountain bike.

These aren't mine but they are pretty crazy...

Not much useful info on them here:

One of the guys at work is selling his hybrid, a 2009 Specialized Sirrus. It seems to be in good condition, I can't see any cracks or dents on the frame, brake pads look almost new. From what I can tell, it cost about £375 new, and he wants £200 for it - does this seem reasonable? There aren't any on eBay at the moment, so I can't use that as a guide.

Good idea, [DOD]Asprilla - I had forgotten about Gumtree. Seems to be about £150-175, but seeing as I already know that this one is in good condition, I figure it's probably worth the £25 difference. Going to try it over the weekend and, assuming there's nothing wrong with it, pay the guy on Monday.

Even new at full price that looks like a lot of bike for the money. Nice one.

In Jonny69 news I took a punt on an eBay combo of an old Brooks B17, Campag aero seatpost and a Campag single shifter. It was cheap. The idea being if it all went a bit wrong I could use the seatpost to part-fund the saddle or just use it because it would fit my Raleigh. Well the saddle is very very old by the look of it but it also looks like it has had very little use. It has sat in someone's pile of parts for years by the look of it. It's ideal for what I wanted it for, because a new one would just get stolen (and look a bit out of place on the bike).

I gave it a damn good wax, top and bottom, then a shine and it's on the bike. Boy is that baby hard, I think it's going to take a bit of breaking in. First ride out is in the morning :D

My first road bike, a specialised allez comp 2010 ws delivered on Tuesday. Other than a 1min testride it's as of yet unridden due to me tearing ankle ligaments 2 weeks ago! However ankle is feeling much better do tmrw I'll be taking her out for her maiden journey, can't wait!!

I decided to get up early this morning and go for my first "proper" ride in about a month. Took the Subway 8 as I've not yet had time to adjust the Sirrus. The ride felt pretty good, nice clear weather and light traffic. Managed to hit a new personal top speed of 62kph, which was great fun. After a couple of hours, having covered 43km, I decided to head home. Looking forward to getting the Sirrus set up so I can take it out tomorrow, I should be quite a bit quicker on it!

Good news about your recovery, and also on the excitement of that first ride on a new bike. Not sure what the weather is like where you are, but it's definitely cycling weather here :)

The maiden voyage was excellent! Sun was out, and the temperative for the first 2/3rds of the ride was nice. It dropped off a bit and the wind picked up later in the ride.

Anyway, 40miles on the new bike today and it felt excellent. It just felt so right! Ive got the biggest grin on my face right now!

I present to you last week's top score: the Yellow Peril :D

Under the ridiculously thick yellow paint it's a 1979-1981 Peugeot with 40-spoke 27" wheels and a single speed flip-flop hub at the back, so I can run single or fixed:

Why is it called the Yellow Peril? Well, aside from the very keen steering geometry it seems to have, at some point a previous owner decided it would be a great idea to paint the rims yellow as well. So that meant no brakes, basically. Coupled with a very distorted tyre, brakes round the wrong way and very low front bars it was quite a mission to ride. I've sorted all that, got some new tyres on their way and hoiked the bars up a bit:

It rides really nicely. I have to say I do like single speed :)

Done my 50mile ride today. Hard work in places on a recumbent but fun.
Hit 40mph on one downhill. That was fun.
3hrs 57min ride time according to the computer.
Pain has to arrive, that'll be tonight and tomorrow.
Still I'm impressed considering lack of milage.

I'm not scene enough for that to bother me. It's bad enough I now own a 'fixie' :p

Nah it's just a standard comment you have to make when someone posts a pic of their FG/SS bike. Although you won't notice it with SS, if you flip to fixed you'll want it a bit tighter so you have more control over your back wheel.
