Now I have my speed and cadence sensors fitted how should I go about washing the bike down after a ride?

Don't want to soak them or are they ok?

I've been washing my bike with sensors using a hose pipe and bucket for 5 years with no issues.

Which sensors do you have??

I had the GSC10 sensor and it was fine. They are waterproof, so I cant see a bit of soapy water doing much harm.

GSC10 that came with my Edge 500.

Good stuff, will wash it as usual but maybe not as thorough as I have been :o

763km in Jan which I'm quite happy with! thinking of the crap weather etc!

today was chilly too, had to double layer on socks but other than that still in shorts + baselayer! need new gloves tho, anything you guys would recommend?

Cool. The reason I asked was that if you had the newer Garmin cadence speed sensor it is practical to take them off as they are attached with elastic bands. Whereas with the GSC10 using cable ties, its more of a PITA.

I had quite a good weekend. Did just under 100km, but over 3 days. Also had to do 4.5hrs work on Saturday, which wasn't so great, but atleast I can take a half day during the week to make up. I'll probably take it later in the week, when hopefully it's a bit warmer.

On the Sunday ride, I bumped into an old friend I hadn't seen since school. He was testing Strava out for the first time. Turns out he recently moved into a house nearby, less than a 2 minute walk! So hopefully have found a new training partner :)

I had an email Friday to say my replacement Garmin has been shipped. I'm excited to get it back, but it's been so peaceful cycling without constantly staring a screen, making sure I'm in the right HR zone etc. I think when I do get it back, I'll be doing lot's of rides with the Garmin out of sight.

I also ordered a couple of bits from Wiggle last night. Main reason, I wanted to buy a second HR strap for the Garmin. I needed a backup for when my current strap is in the wash. Unfortunately, it appeared as though I had to buy the whole HR monitor again. So I decided to spend a little extra, and purchased a Mio Link (wireless HR wristband). It requires charging the batteries, I suspect more often than changing the strap's batteries, but atleast it won't require washing. I also struggled with the chest strap, I have such a small upper body, that it often slipped or fell off.
I also ordered some Schwalbe Marathon-plus tyres (25mm), for the CX/Winter bike. Hopefully no more punctures :)

417 km to date. Pretty pleased with that given that I haven't really cycled much during January given the weather. Picked up some longer distances towards the end though. Here's to a warmer February!

WRONG! :p

The GSC10 is notorious for stopping working after it gets wet.

Making sure the 'arm' screw is done up as tight as possible is what many report as the only solution. Lots of people have experienced corrosion in the GSC10 (from water getting into it) leading to them having to buy a replacement. Garmin have been good about replacing them under warranty, but once over a year old will not replace them even though it is through a poor design of the unit.

I've glued around the 'gap' with my hot glue gun, but I really should get some vaseline or some kinda water-proofing something on there while mine is good. There's also a 'breather hole' which is stupidly under the rubber pad so the unit never dries out on it's own. Hair-drying it with the battery removed seems to be the interim fix if yours stops working...

Leg warmers or base layer on your legs?!

Great to hear you've got a riding buddy, get him trained up and up-to speed! ;)

I've heard the older Garmin HR strap was 'hard' or plastic and less prone to the Garmin HRM strap problems. Also heard some polar straps will work with the Garmin. I bought a non-garmin for these reasons! ;)

Glad to hear you'll be puncture free for a while! :D

I didn't get out as much as I wanted in Jan so just 837km. I'd like to say Feb will be better but after this week I will be off the bike for at least a couple of weeks :/

'Just' lol

Work, rest or hols?

Wow  We're only 35.5 hours into the month too. Impressive work.
:o Not even going to bother editing that now :o

21.8 kmph average, not bad ;)

122 miles this Jan, I was away for a week and a chicken for another weeks commuting so not bad really ;)

143 miles in Jan, but only 135 outdoors. Not bad, given the dire weather... Mind you, it's behind both 2013 (200 miles) and 2014 (161 miles). I can't see myself catching up over February, so there's going to be a lot of work to do from March onwards.

703 miles total, 948km taking out the turbo work. Although my average speed seems to be about 12mph on the turbo, not sure if that is due to high resistance or dodgy sensor.

I think I only managed about 175 miles commuting. Still nursing my knee but it's feeling better and I'm slowly working back up to full weekly distance.
