First ride out of year yesterday - only 35miles in very windy conditions! -7 with wind chill!

Only 14.5mph average so not my best but I have to have an X-ray on my knee on Tuesday as the pain was leaving me unable to stand up last week. I could cycle fine but walking was a big no. Weird. Having it X-rayed to make sure my metal bits aren't pressing on a nerve.

Need to get training for my charity ride in July. Has to start now - fundraising and everything.

Please see here:-

It is 3rd attempt at it (and probably the last for now) and it has caught me out every time with mechanicals, crashes, weather.

If anyone feels this is a great cause to helping people with disability or simply to back me a bit it would be very much appreciated. Some people just need a helping hand to achieve what some of us take for granted.

Threw you a few quid mate, I don't do charity 'donations' (various reasons) but certainly sponsoring people doing things to aid charities is a worthwhile cause! With your story it makes it even more applicable, good luck and well done so far! :)

Very shiny :D

I'd be scared to get them dirty! You've gotta keep them that clean! ;)

Whoever was after a turbo, this looks like a good deal but I have no idea about the brand (Riva): http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/TRRSFL/riva-sport-fluid-magnetic-turbo-trainer (Fluid trainer for £140). Trainer riser blocks good price from PX too.

Ordered some of the Planet X merino thicky socks and overshoes for when mine die (their days are numbered!). I'll report back about the socks ;)

Tour de Yorkshire tickets now available - £46 for the longest route.

I was expecting about half that :p

I'll probably still sign up though I'll think about it for a little bit first.

Argh, I've ordered some more bike bits and on Saturday I had a card through the door saying they couldn't deliver something as it was too big. The card doesn't say whether it's gone to a neighbour or back to the sorting office. Useless postman. Relic of a bygone age, damn him.

I think I asked before, has anyone here tried a POC Octal crash helmet? Yeah, I know, they're quite expensive, but very very cool. And I like the aero one.

I quite like the look of POC road attire, but it is so damn expensive :p

They do look pretty cool, i'll admit, and weigh practically nothing. But i don't think it's a look everyone can really pull off. From what i hear, if you're going to spend that much on a helmet it's pretty hard to find a reason not to get the Giro Synthe.

Anyone have an Ortlieb Velocity or Messenger bag? In the market for a new backpack to replace my cheap no-name current bag, any recommendations?

Argh again. I've just had a look at the bb in one of the parcels that did make it... It has Campagnolo splining so I need another damn tool. Curses.

Spam...

Look out for a second-hand Kurt Kinetic Road Machine. Whatever you buy, make sure it's compatible with Trainer Road's virtual power or you'll end up kicking yourself later.

Second hand KKRM as suggested. There are others in the Elite range and they seem to review well, some of the Tacx have dropping in price as there are new ones out too! Sure you need fluid?

I guess I don't know what I want and just figured they were the quietest option. I'm hoping to use it in the conservatory but if too loud will need to move to the garage, main reason for conservatory is just because then I can turn my monitor around on my desk (Laziness for the win!)

At least Capag tools are really cheap.... Oh, wait... :p

Mercifully this bb tech is outmoded and Campagnolo have replaced it with ultra torque or some such nonsense, so I can get a bb tool for a fiver, or less if I order it direct from Taipei. You can still get an official Campagnolo one for a hilarious £25 from wiggle, and that's after their discount.

A paltry 300km for me in January - that's about half what i did this time last year. Broken bikes, icy/snowy weather and family commitments have put paid to some of my plans so far and only made it out on the road 4 times!

On the upside, i've averaged about 5 hours a week on the turbo and got in some pretty consistent training there. So not massively off where i was aiming to be tbh.

I've seen that. Thank you very much for that. It is much appreciated. :)

It's particularly close for me because I don't consider myself to be in any way disabled as I feel it would be an insult to more genuine cases but I have had to learn and adapt to different ways because of my injuries.

I also know patients I met in hospital who have had help from Scope to get them started on things - one guy is even doing wheelchair tennis which he loves.
