Mercifully this bb tech is outmoded and Campagnolo have replaced it with ultra torque or some such nonsense, so I can get a bb tool for a fiver, or less if I order it direct from Taipei. You can still get an official Campagnolo one for a hilarious £25 from wiggle, and that's after their discount.

Wow... that's ridiculous. The £5 option sounds like the best plan, like you say :)

just seen an advert come up on Facebook
and I think its a brilliant idea for me to get one
anyway, its an emergency ID bracelet
https://www.onelifeid.com/

what do you guys think?

Looks like a good idea. I've wondered for a while now about what I ought to carry around with me so that if, God forbid, I get knocked off or fall off or whatever, someone can figure out who I am and who to get in touch with.

<snip>

Whoever was after a turbo, this looks like a good deal but I have no idea about the brand (Riva): http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/TRRSFL/riva-sport-fluid-magnetic-turbo-trainer (Fluid trainer for £140). Trainer riser blocks good price from PX too.

Thanks Roady, missed your reply earlier. Only thing is trainer road doesn't have it listed. Is there much of a difference with fluid vs magentic? This Elite mag gets good reviews it appears.

Also, does anyone have the link for the decathlon speed/cadence sensor for £17, I'm not seeing it.

There's a huge difference in regards to how the resistance works, how loud it is and whether or not you can use it with TrainerRoad. I'd strongly recommend a decent quality fluid trainer. You will be fine with a magnetic for a bit but you'll quickly outgrow it and end up buying a better (fluid) trainer.

Yup. Works well enough.

Owww!

My legs are in pain! Played 6 a side touch rugby last night, first time had to run for about ten years and I can tell, rubbed ibuprofen gel into both legs as everything hurt when I got home!

Followed up less than 12 hrs later with a hard 50k morning bunch ride!

Going to have to think about one of those foam rollers or something as this isn't good.....

I imagine most of it is simply down to not putting that kind of strain on your muscles/ligaments/etc. Foam rolling and mobility work are always a good idea though :)

On that note, I was surprised today whilst doing stiff-legged DB deadlifts that I could touch my toes with my legs straight  I don't remember being able to do that even when I was a teenager doing karate regularly.

Slip of paper in with your coffee money in the saddle bag with contact details? Seems a simple solution:)

I think the Rapha Hardshell is the least versatile bit of kit in the world. Even at 0C it is still too hot.

I think it might be useful if you cycle on the ice planet Hoth!

I also know patients I met in hospital who have had help from Scope to get them started on things - one guy is even doing wheelchair tennis which he loves.

UK Charities that work with people over here are the only ones who'll get money from me - you can see where it goes and it's more likely you, I or someone we know will need them at some point. Macmillan are another one.

On the upside, i've averaged about 5 hours a week on the turbo and got in some pretty consistent training there. So not massively off where i was aiming to be tbh.

Impressive & well done! Puts my ~1 hour a week to shame! ;)

Anyone have an Ortlieb Velocity or Messenger bag? In the market for a new backpack to replace my cheap no-name current bag, any recommendations?

I've got an Ortlieb saddle bag and would happily try one of their backpacks, panniers too but the prices are insane!

My backpack is a Deuter Bike One 20L, it's great but I should've gone for 25L or 30L as occasionally it's not quite big enough (usually when carrying an extra pair of shoes).

I've read of some bike messengers moving over to them, so they must have something going for them.

Isn't that what grudas does? It's the only explanation I can find for his insane speeds and traffic filtering skills! :D

I've heard of guys having their name and address on a sticker/tag on the inside of their helmet. Personally I think something on the bike or attached to the saddlebag is a better idea? People might not know to look in the bag!

I still have an 'ICE' number setup on my mobile but with a passcode there's not much point

A wristband would bug me, but something on my helmet/bike/rucksack is doable - wouldn't need to 'remember' it either! ;)

For his budget he wouldn't be able to get a decent fluid - so it's down to S/H luck or the age long question: is a decent mag better than a cheap fluid!? :p

I guess I don't know what I want and just figured they were the quietest option. I'm hoping to use it in the conservatory but if too loud will need to move to the garage, main reason for conservatory is just because then I can turn my monitor around on my desk (Laziness for the win!)

Laziness/ease ftw! It'll mean you find it easier to get into it and regularly do it. Fluid are quieter but I wouldn't like to be in an enclosed space even with mine (KKRMII), it's not so bad if you're on it (the suffering and screams of pain kinda drown out the noise) but I imagine for anyone else it would get very annoying very quickly! I use mine in the back garden as I don't like the neighbours - but it does mean continually setting up/taking down which makes me use it less :/

I use my KKRMII in my tiny living room. On a wooden floor. In a terraced house.

I also hate my neighbours :p

The noise doesn't bother me unless I really stomping on the pedals but then I usually have the tunage cranked up to 11 from my big floor standing speakers :D

Well I had a wipeout this morning on ice, managed to graze my arm in the same spot I had to have stitches last year after my big accident :( don't think I'll be trying to head out again in similar conditions given they don't bother gritting some of the roads near me

I can easily manage that, which according to Fizik/Cannondale makes me a "snake" couldn't get on with the Arione saddle they recommend though!

Not much saddle/bar drop either, maybe my hips don't rotate much, too much drop crushes the groin and makes the lower back pack in sooner!

To be honest I'm still not really used to being fairly fit - all through my 20s I sat in front of a PC so it's still a shock to me now and again when I can do stuff like not get tired out walking up stairs, etc :p
