The chain and cassette wear at different rates so they will never be "worn together"?

Over the lifetime of a cassette you will probably have replaced the chain 4ish times.

Yes exactly. So if I put my brand new chain (300 mi ish) onto my turbo wheel's cassette (3000 ish miles), its going to skip. Id have to get a new Cassette.

"Worn together" was probably not the best term to use.

What I'm getting at is that it removes all the potential palava with mixing and matching wheels from different bikes/with different cassettes.

If your cassette is worn then yeah, sure. At 3000 miles your cassette should probably be okay unless you've let the chain get really bad though?

This is probably a question more for One More Solo than anyone else (as I'm talking about races that Manchester Wheelers might be involved in/running primarily for now) but...

How strict are cat 4 races about UCI-legal stuff. I'm mainly asking as my new bike (same as my old) is going to have discs and I'm wondering if that precludes me from racing.

If it does I may just convert my current bike to a full-on CX and go for that instead.

edit: From what I've read it looks like lots of cat 4 races do seem to stick to the UCI rules on disc brakes. A bit disappointing but I don't care about racing enough to change my bike spec purely for that.

Neat idea but as mentioned all the big manufacturers are sitting on patents for similar, the same will happen with that and I doubt it goes past the concept stage before one of the big players pulls a patent infringement on him or buys the patent to then mothball it.

Still a bit chomping at the bit a little as I can't do any gym work and have to take it easy. Far better than just sitting around though.

Turbo sweet spot?

First commute this year with sunglasses. Ah, some vitamin D :)

Sunglasses? You mean fly deflectors! Never go out on the bike without them regardless of the time of year ;)

What glasses are you all wearing? I've had the same pair of DHB's since July and I wear them every ride (replaceable lenses) any weather! The clear lenses are getting a few scratches though so I may track some more down before autumn this year. Most sunglasses I find have too much rim on the outside edges to use for commuting - you need good behind visibility from a shoulder glance.

Turbo sweet spot?

If I do any turbo work I think the absolute highest power zone I should go into is tempo. Sweet spot will probably cause swelling/aggravation of things :/

Given how long I lasted not cycling I imagine I'll have disregarded my own advice by the end of the week though...

This is an excellent idea: http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news...anging-freehub-design-ever-make-market-157363

The fathing around it would save would be great! The main one for me would be not having to worry about mixing and matching partially worn cassettes and chains.

At the moment, using any of my bikes with the turbo wheel causes it to skip gears badly as the chains and cassette have not worn together. Yeah, I can buy a new cassette, but it may still skip, and then 6 months down the line when I want to use the turbo again they will be unevenly worn again.

But this would solve all that. Sounds promising.
oh yes please.
always get covered in oil and struggle getting it back on after

why doesn't he just kickstart it

I've no idea what the Railway path is like and there is only a short section on the busy A4. Has a bit of a climb on it too (Kelston Hill, ooops!) ;)

Kelston Hill is on my commute (if I man up and go the hilly way!). It's a cheeky little climb on a generally quiet A road - steep to start, eases off then a little false flat through the village before it steepens again when it goes left up to the summit.

Winter needs to **** off. I've been ill for the last few days with cold/flu symptoms. Felt it coming on last week and noticed a drop in performance. (I gave up on a Sufferfest after the 5min warm-up!)

Right now, any cycling induces a severe coughing fit.:(

Sounds like a fun one - get it into your commute! ;) (although I'm always moaning about needing to ride more hills and have a cheeky small one on my commute I should include!)

Today has been amazing weather wise but there was some very cold winds this morning, fingers crossed for some warmth on the commute home! Lots of people have colds/flu at the moment so as soon as i feel anything I dose myself up on tesco cold tablets and have been lucky so far this year (only had 1 to note so far...).

Nothing to do with winter, come on as a hardened cyclist you should know it isn't the cold that has caused all this!

I agree though, it does need to bugger off, I hate arriving to work in the mornings not being able to feel my extremities, no matter what I'm wearing! Going to Majorca was a curse, I'm glad it wasn't that warm in the end.

Although lighter evenings are making me a bit more cheerful on my ride home.

I use a dodgy pair of 'Oakleys' bought from ebay years ago but like yourself I'm looking to get something more suited for Cycling.

Leggings and skullcap arrived from Wiggle today. Both DHB, fairly cheap as well but it'll mean I'm nice and toasty when I'm out at the weekend :D

I accidently washed my cycling undershorts with the normal wash.

the label says don't use fabric conditioner.

does it really matter ? should I stick them in a rinse cycle?

yea I just got a cold too started today :(

I've not even had any social/human contact in over a week :|
probably caught it from a chip n pin keyboard in asda....

Nothing like a ruptured side wall 2.6 miles away from home with no one available to come rescue you!

Rather loud bang as I applied the front brakes, my brake pad looks like it may be slightly high, but it's been fine since I replaced them a few months ago, but maybe it's just been wearing it down?

Annoying!
