Picked up my DHB flashlight shorts that were on offer, got both medium and small, tried both on the small were much snugger and comfier, pad is slightly thinner than my current DHB Aeron Pros but think the much better fit will mean they're comfier. The medium Aerons are far too large and sag below the undercarriage!

Almost pulled the trigger on my new bike, but couldn't order it! Definitely going for the Pinnacle, when/if I can ever order it, going to have to sign myself up to one of the adventure sportives! Can't wait to give CX racing a bash too!

Planning an attack on No.23, from both angles , in Princes Risborough on Saturday.

Best part of 1,000ft elevation over 6 miles (and I have 12/13 miles there and back too with 500ft each way) Amigonnamakeit?

Not sure if the right place but, currently have a 9 mile round trip to work 4 times a week
so not a big journey but the mountain bike I'm using at the moment is quite heavy, gears messed up and gives me pains. Not after something expensive as I'll only be going 9 miles 4 days a week. Could I get something decent for under £300? I don't have a clue what's what with bikes!

Pro tip: Take way more food and drink than you think you need. Also, don't go out too hard. Looks like there are some steep bits but the main thing with long hills like that is to pace yourself. If it feels too easy at first...it probably isn't.

Once you've been up there once you will have a better idea of how fast you can push it next time for a proper Pr :)

It's probably worth checking out the Felt range. Alternatively, does you work offer any kind of bike2work scheme? If so you may want to consider extending your budget slightly as in the 400-500 range you can often get something substantially better.

Lastly, although in here we're all going to encourage you to move to a road bike (especially for primarily riding on roads:p) if you're getting aches and pains on your bike it's most likely down to the bike fit more than anything else. It's definitely worth learning about how to set up your bike correctly and/or going to an LBS and asking them about it (whilst they try and sell you a new bike).

Is this a "keep pushing" moment?

I lol'd ;)

On a positive note, wore my leggings to give them a whirl, probably the cause of overheating in the lounge :D

Which leggings did you go for and why? :)

I'm the opposite, bought Large and X Large and had to send the Large back to replace with some more X Large! 'Normal' DHB Active I'm a Large...:p

Easy! Is it fairly constant or some fairly sharp ascents? Just take your time and do some training towards it, this could be a good start? :p

You're at the right place, but you won't get much new for under 300. Shopping around on Wiggle gives me these:
  • Verenti Technique Claris 2015 (reviews well and is a 2015 model so quite loaded with features for the price - full Claris etc) £391 (£351 with 12% discount)
  • Mekk Pinerolo AL ZR 2015 (good make again and good setup for the price) £330
  • Charge Plug 2 2014/ (think these are ok, older model and all 'Charge' branded with no-name drivetrain, lower quality than the previous two) £282
  • Felt Z95 Sora 2014/ (excellent bike and our go-to for anyone on a budget, but it is a bit over yours... Full Sora and Carbon fork) £450

I actually spent £300 on a Carrera Virtuoso 2012 from Halfords a year and a half ago, I was lucky as the particular model/year I got was actually ok with a mixture of Sora, Claris and Tektro brakes. The earlier and later models are not as well specced. If you are buying budget you need to read as many reviews online as you can as it can be such a minefield. I replaced it 7 months later (for a bike twice the price I'll keep for much longer).

If you're looking second hand there are a lot more options - any of your LBS will have good quality, well maintained bikes for around that figure: example or ebay.

Thanks :) Ordered the one you and Grudas got from eBay.

I got the official Garmin one, it's fantastic quality but quite bulky and the VIRB is really high on the handlebars (my bars are quite thick)...

I'm kindof waiting for a dual garmin/gopro one (like this) to be available from somewhere like Superstar (where I got my upfront Garmin mount from).

So plumped for a CX bike in the end, after all my umming and arghing over di2 and cycle plus fees, decided with finances as they are to get the cheaper bike, and then come next year build myself up a lovely di2 machine.

Went for the Pinnacle Arkose 4 from evans - 5800 11 Spd, Hydraulic Shimano Brakes, just not the full carbon, just need to find some local races now, although it's running compact so suspect I may need toswap the chainrings over for racing at some point!

That mount looks pretty awesome. I'd definitely get it if I get round to buying a Virb/GoPro.

I was so tempted by that bike when looking at new ones. How do you find the Shimano hydraulics? I'm definitely picking some of them up.

Can you race on discs? I thought that most (even cat 4) races were precious about it?

Nice idea. Especially if you already have an out front mount for a Garmin GPS.

I don't know, not picked it up yet! My local league runs to BC rules, so discs are allowed. I can't see it being too long until UCI rules change for CX as a minimum.

Thanks, I have already picked up a second cage & bottle as my rides are getting longer and as it gets warmer I will be drinking more no doubt.

Will be sure to fuel up properly before the ride and take something in on ride before the climb too.

Will definitely pace myself, not expecting a KOM :p

The only new bike I'd really consider actually under £300 is this: http://www.decathlon.co.uk/triban-300-road-bike-white-id_8239800.html

Good shout on the Triban 300! I always miss that one! ;)

I'm heading out this weekend for a bit of a climb test and have set myself a 'soft goal' of under 20 mins (lol I know - semi thinking I may need to stop, once). I'll be using this area for some tests of my hill endurance (I have none currently) along with repeats of this at some point: https://www.strava.com/segments/1642570 (around 1 mile from my house so nice and close!) ;)

Hills are something I've done very little of - but coming from mid-wales (and knowing loads of cool places I want to cycle) it's something I want to master! :D

Amazing bike as mentioned before, did you go for the bright Blue? (does it come in anything else lol) my hardest thing would be matching clothing/gear to that blue (I'm a tart) ;)

Exactly, thought of it when I saw grudas' mount as I'd just fitted my Superstar one (for my garmin) in the same orientation... Surprised there's not lots of others with universal mounts for light/garmin combinations?!
