I'm impressed with this Edge 500. It's way more accurate than my phone (obviously). Got a couple of PR's on my commute which I'm happy about now that it's being recorded correctly.

I averaged 19mph this morning which in morning traffic I don't reckon is too bad, considering I'm 15st and love cake.

The calories burned on Strava (728) aren't matching what the Edge/Garmin Connect says (568) but I'm not too fussed about that. Strange though - http://app.strava.com/runs/23672342

I'm getting tempted to buy one, bit more accurate than using my phone, plus on longer rides the battery gets used up a lot.

Wasn't sold on the Heart Rate Monitor, but the cadence seems like a good idea to me.

Thanks for this, just grabbed one. I took my mini pump back because it was almost impossible to get a decent PSI using it - bought myself a track pump and one of these for carrying with me.

No worries :) A few of us here use the same inflator. Another recommendation from here was a place to buy cheap cartridges in bulk:

I bought some of their 16g cartridges and they work perfectly with the M-Part pump.

Cheers, I haven't actually got a spare tube yet, I've only recently bought a "proper" bike and find the tube sizes etc rather confusing :-) Think I'll wander over to my local bike shop and just tell them my tyre size :D

Either that or ask here. Loads of helpful and knowledgable folk posting in this thread!! :)

My tyres are Continental Contact 700x28c, so I was going to get:

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/continental-quality-road-inner-tube/
Presta 42mm 700x25-35 Cross 28

My thinking being 700 is the right size, and the 25-35 range covers the 28c, but then the "Cross" bit and it being a 42mm Presta threw me a bit - no idea what the cross means, and I know I have Presta valves but I have no idea what the 42mm bit is for.

Car tyres are so much easier ;-)

Yeah, I wasn't too fussed about the HRM either. I only got them because that and the cadence/speed sensor only cost me an extra 30 quid. I'll probably stop wearing it once the novelty wears off.

Cheaper ;)

Ah well, pulled the trigger and ordered an Edge 500 with standard HRM and Cadence sensor from Merlin. Seemed cheaper than elsewhere, £185 minus 10% at the basket.

Fingers crossed it gets here before the weekend but I can't see me being that lucky.

Jammy sod! That's a better deal than I got. That's to be expected though buying online compared to paying 'there and then' tax to have it now.

I ended up having to cut one of my spoke reflectors in half so the wheel magnet could fit in the middle. There's not much wiggle room on the magnet position because of having to fit the cadence sensor.

I'm impressed with the Garmin Connect site/plugin thing. It's easy to upload stuff and is very detailed. Plus we all love pretty graphs.

Edit: The Merlin website's showing the edge w/ HRM and sensors at £225. Where did you see it for £185?

Nice choice!

I ordered some tyres from Merlin a few weeks ago. Their delivery was pretty good. I would have thought you would get it before the weekend!

I live in Australia ;)

Used to use them as my LBS when I lived in Wigan, handy to pop into on my way home from work with the bonus of prices as good as anywhere else online.

Went in when I was back in July/August and got a few bits then, handy for trying things on.

Just realised, I'll be buying VAT free, but that price was better than CRC, Evans and Wiggle.

Works internet rubbish so typing on phone. I need 700x18/23c inner tube and want to call in halfords. Their sizes make no sense even when I convert. Which is the best value multipack please and also link to a reasonable priced alternative I can send for. Thanks

Ive got a £50 amazon voucher ive got to use and was thinking of buying a new helmet so i dont look like a mushroom head, can anyone recommend one? i dont mind adding more to the £50

Go to a store and try some on.
Even helmet sizes from the same manufacturer can be different. For example, I found the Giro Atmos and Ionos fitted differently, despite being very similar looking helmets.

Ah, that makes more sense :)

I wonder if you can order from Aus but deliver to UK addresses ;)

Why not just pop in tesco and get a few from there? Unless I'm dumb and there's such thing as good inner tubes and bad ones.

I'm screwed if I get a flat anyway though because I bent my metal tyre lever just getting those Marathon Plus' on in the first place, and I had to have help to hold it on while I did it.
