Right guys I've signed up for a cycle touring long weekend (Fri early morn train from London to Loughborough, fri cycle to Warwick, sat cycle to oxford, sun cycle to London. Was planning on buying a pannier frame and bags for my gear (Sleeping bag, tent, clothes etc)

However I've found an issue with my bike (Felt Z85 2012) in that it doesn't have any holes to mount any panniers at the rear. I've had a quick look around and people say they have attached panniers to bikes with no pannier holes with p-clips.

So looking at the following, rack like this:

P-clips:

Anyone have experience with a similar setup or suggestions?

what is decathlons delivery like? they charge 15quid for it, and they did take the money from the bank but i have only got one email and nothing else! its been a week too.

i don't mind waiting but having no information from the shop or a way to check the order status is a bit poop in my eyes

You can get panniers that attach to the seatpost.
I think Russinating has some, and speaks highly of them as well.

Pclips will be fine though. Make sure you wrap your frame so that they wont scratch the paint. Frame protection tape would be best, but maybe something like electrical tape would work also (but you'll have sticky residue to clean off when you remove it).

London to Casablanca on a fixie- good effort! Just had a look at his website, any idea which bags he used in his setup?

@touch - I also have a Carbon Seat post so not sure it is a good idea to attach the the seat post, though could attach a bag.

Which day? Maybe Sunday?
After rowing on saturday , Ive committed myself to help and clean boats and boat house along with others....god knows what time we will finish.
I'm penciled in for a row on Sunday but that can be changed..

Time to back in to saddle....was ill and messed my finger and couldn't grab anything properly for a while...

Sunday works for me. At the moment it is forecast to be cloudy but dry so unless that changes to rain as the week goes on I'm up for it.

Why is it that everything needs replacing in one go? :p

Tyres, chain, cassette and now the gear shifter has buggered. Seems as though the cogs or a spring has gone and I am only getting 8 clicks instead of 9. Going to get it repaired on Wednesday all being well!

Replacing? Is modern gear really that short-lived? My indexed down-tube shifters are 20 years old this year and still work great and it's on its original cassette and chainrings. I just add oil and it just keeps going

performance over longevity anyday of the week...

Original cassette and chainrings? That sounds like some good going.

I think the cassette had worn due to the riding with a stretched chain for so long. So that was mainly down to me being an idiot! :(

That happened on my commuter, cost me £80 instead of the cost of just a new chain. I invested in a £20 park chain tool (you can just use a ruler too but I'm lazy) so hopefully I won't get stung again.

sent you a PM...

on the other hand, maybe we can wait for a weekend with more people ? more people = more fun and more beer in pubs ;)

Yeah I don't mind, the more the merrier! Although I'm not a beer drinker and double vodkas probably wouldn't be appropriate.:D

I just said this weekend as I know I'm free. Unfortunately, I can't usually plan too far ahead as things crop up. I know I'm at work Nov 3rd/4th though as we're moving offices and I'll need to work that whole weekend.:(

Both me and Russinating use Topeak gear which is amazing stuff.
He's got the Topeak Beamrack which fits to the seatpost but I opted for the cheaper BabySeat™ II Rack and put P-Clips on (the Babyseat rack does the job).
We both have the MTX TrunkBag DXP which is like having a Mary Poppins bag and highly recommended.
Topeak stuff is dearer but superb and uses the MTX track system which is excellent.

urgh! hate decathlon online shop! :| so i bought the triban 3 on wednesday, got the confirmation email and nothing after that :) can't create account either, come today my money is back in the bank again no emails nothing ! and when i ordered they had 7 in stock in my size! now they have none.

hate it when companies mess around like that.

Yep, I got one of the £5 jobbies, hopefully it will save me some money in the long run :p
