Don't buy the red! the damn seat shares it colors when it rains and some of my shorts are now red where I sit on it :p:p:D:D even goes through the shorts and unto my boxers lol.

Boxers under your shorts? If they're Lycra you should try going commando - much more comfortable... If you mean baggy shorts then maybe ;)

Any central Londoners planning to ride this Saturday if it's nice weather? I can't do Sunday.

I'm around this weekend and would be up for a ride, if you're not going to be too fast - fitness isn't great at the moment... What sort of distance and average speed? I'm starting from se15 but happy to meet wherever.

I'm in SW4.

I wouldn't be pushing too hard/fast except for attacking climbs. I'm still not sure on a route but I'd like to do around 30 miles.

Nah, I don't commute by bike at the moment. I don't know if I could handle 12 miles each way just yet! Maybe in the future.

I thought this when I started commuting on my MTB so I used to drive half way then cycle till one day I just decided to cycle all the way home and it was fine. Got a road bike in July as I wanted to get quicker and now I'll often take a longer route to or from work.

So far this week I've done 97.5 miles commuting and another 17 out last night.

You'll spank me on the climbs, but I'll need the practice. Still about 95kg, I suspect. Can chase you once I get over the hill ;) 30miles sounds good, I might need a brief stretch in the middle though if my back gets sore (I'm only 30 but probably sound about 50!). Ave speed on the flat (without traffic lights) 18mph ish ok? I don't want to be holding you up...

Monday 12th November; I'm back on embankment after a 9 month absence. Game on.

Quick question about headsets, recently changed from a normal type to one with sealed bearings and now it feels smoother.

Will I need to tighten the top cap after a few hundred miles it is a case of fit and forget with the sealed bearing type?

Phew, decided that I need to increase my riding in the weeks to help make a difference to my longer rides.

Did the same ride I did on Sunday after work today, only downside is during the afternoon the temperature is going through the roof now, was over 26c at 4pm, and it feels so much hotter in the sun.

I am so far behind the best riders on this climb;

I don't feel so bad after a quick google shows the fastest guy was 2009 Junior Road champion.... he went up there almost as fast as I do on the flats.... Ah well, just gotta keep working at it, the only way to get faster!

Rumour has it since Rabobank have packed in, Mark Renshaw will be gunning for all the KOM titles around Bathurst as he is a local.

18mph! I may need to draft you to keep up.:p

Do you have any favourite routes? I hate getting lost so until I get a Garmin I've not been very adventurous. I know the London to Brighton route well enough so I usually do that and get the train back.

No favourite routes... I think Brighton is a bit further than 30miles though? I rode down to Newhaven a few weekends ago, my average speed dropped steadily through the ride. By the end was barely crawling up the hills. 18mph was quite doable last year when I was commuting daily and was therefore fitter. I haven't really checked my speed since, but do have a garmin so we won't get lost.

A loop out to Biggin Hill would be about 30miles. Not sure if the roads are any good though...

I havent!

Bought a Fizik Arione in the end, black with centre white stripe which should match my Boardman in black with white decals.

Yeah Brighton is 54mi and I'd like to do something new anyway. That loop to Biggin Hill sounds good.

Let's just hope the weather forecast doesn't turn sour!
